Looks identical to Google Earth.

the best one I've found by far is Acme mapper.

http://mapper.acme.com/about.html

It shows the boundaries of wildlife refuge lands as well as allowing the pinning of waypoints from a gps. :)

You would absolutely love my Lowrance MapCreate 7.1

on a side note nc, I have been trying to get up to the camp b/4 they harvest the soy & corn, to look around, do some maint., and bring a new fridge, but this A/C work just keeps on coming.

I can see where the mapcreate would come in handy on fed land but I've got a good handle on what I'm doin. ;)

there's corn ready to be picked here now but the fields are too wet to get in. We've been getting rain nearly every day for weeks, 3" on Sat and another 3" Sunday. Finally a break yesterday and today.

Damn, that's pretty good! I can zoom in to where I can follow the deer-proof fence across the property. Better yet, it showed me what I've been missing in terms of what it is that makes the Uber-funnel the Uber-funnel.

Maybe I can mess around with it long enough to figure out where to pick up deer coming north out of the public park hunt area...

I'm still liking Google earth the best.

A good tool for those that have the iPhone is the Motion X GPS app. It uses Google Earth as a background and does most of the things a dedicated GPS does. Waypoints, tracks, etc. all in the phone that you have with you. Zooms to the same great detail that you can do on your computer with GE.

Dave, it is a major out lay of cash to get it...! ($2.99 :D)

I have had it for quite some time now and there are some features that are super neat, for instance you can save a track and then email that track, waypoints and pictures taken along the way to someone by email all right from the program in the iPhone. All the receiver has to have is Google Earth installed on their computer. I send tracks to myself so I can mull them over on the big screen. You can of course lay out your hunting location with good spots that you find and then look at them at home and see how they fit with the overall terrain and brush/forest in the area.

I forgot to mention that you can use Google Earth/ Bing/ and Motion X backgrounds for roads, aerial and combo.

venado I put the yellow pins on all my hunting spots, just to remind me of the places I have to hunt.

I'm now using an iPhone (my Blackberry died) and must say that I do like being able to have my GPS location superimposed on overhead imagery or road maps.

It also has a built in compass.

If I could do TOPOs, tracks, and waypoints I could throw my regular GPS away.

Twanger, you can do tracks and waypoints on the program motion x. BTW I'm writing this from a tripod on the ranch...!! One thing is that motion x is a battery hog.

I kept a good lookout ST between posting...!:D It was a hot son-of-a-gun but we saw a fair number of deer considering the very short morning and evening time when they were active. We had a work weekend and that part wasn't much fun. The meals were supurb though with Saturday being redfish on the half-shell coverd with 20 count shrimp....man we really rough it..!

One of the game cams had 18 different bucks over a one month period and all were between 11 pm and 3 am. talk about nocturnal..!

The pigs are really getting rare over the last few months. I suppose that relates to our lack of water.

I've noticed the same thing. Do you suppose they actually migrate to other areas in search of water? If so, I wonder how far they go? East Texas must be covered up in hogs! :D

Twanger a topo down in this flat country would have to have inch intervals rather than 10' intervals for us to see much, but that Motion X GPS for the iPhone has topo too. It is called "Motion X O-Terrain". Since I haven't used it I don't know if it would have any value. What I use for scouting is Google Earth for looking at brush and cover vs relatively open areas.
