the amount sea level has risen in the last 7000 years along coastal NC.

At least 3 varieties of large elephants were abundant in NC 11,500 years ago.

After Sleasly and now Perdue, NC has sunk to neverseenbefore levels ... but that's on a different plane altogether. I think the Indians would have found it amusing. :D

Gates County

Route 158 just beyond Acorn Hill Road, as you descend into the southern remnant of the Great Dismal, that ridge is the Suffolk Scarp, what was once the shoreline of the ocean.

There's a man has a house perched right up on it that I would do despicable things to own:D

The Suffolk Scarp is an impressive sight on the otherwise flat land of the coastal plain. It more or less is the western boundary of the Great Dismal Swamp.

I sometimes wonder why it hasn't been made into a tourist attraction.
