A friend gave my wife the stand and a can of Budweiser for "beer can chicken". Following the instructions I plugged the neck of the chicken with a potato, dumped half the can of beer and did the optional thing of adding a little liquid smoke and stood the rubbed chicken on it. Lining a pan with foil for easy clean up I placed the chicken on it sliding the whole thing into a 350 degree oven and walked away for 90 minutes.

What we got was a very appealing roast chicken that was moist and well flavored. I could not be more pleased.

The instructions suggest that lemon/lime soda, cola or root beer can be substituted. Also liquid smoke, worchestire sauce, garlic and onion may all be added to the liquid along with any rub.

I cannot imagine the stand with the beer can holder costing more than a couple dollars. I recommend it and you may wish to pick up the stand and try it.

I did two of them today on the smoker. I used RC Cola in one and 7-Up in the other. For one of them I have the original "Drunken Chicken" stand from Cabelas ($9) and for the other one I have the original Bent #9 Wire stand by Alan ($.05). I actually like the wire one better because it doesn't stick inside the chicken when it's done. I just rub them good with Essence and put them in the smoker for two hours at 250 -300 turning them to all four sides in that time. Then I take them off the sauce and wrap them in foil and let them sit in the smoker for another hour or so. When they're done the skin is the only thing holding them together. #1 wife made rice and pintos and she put together some BBQ sauce that is outa this world. I already told her that she is going to make some more, in bulk.

You are right, It's the best way to cook a chicken yet! I can't even move right now.

The red necks up at the camp do that. I really don't care for them. I'd much rather the rotissere chicken.

I've done a couple of BCC's and they've always been great!
Has anyone done a Foster's-can turkey? :D
