A local gun club holds surplus military rifle matches using cast bullets. I used a Spanish M43 8mm last match and placed second. My cast load was the Lyman #323471 (215 grain bullet) and 25 grains of IMR 4198. The course of fire is 20 rounds at 100 yards; 5 bench, 5 offhand and 10 prone. It is a fun match and one sees every arm you can imagine.
Word is that a second match is being considered using any ammo (Ball, or jacketed factory or handload) over the same course of fire. This will let the gang bring in the semi-autos. I will use an 8mm Hakim in those matches along with a Garand.
Anyone else shooting military surplus matches?
