Anyone interested in having monthly photo contests?
Might be nice to have something to be involved in during the off season.

The guys with hi-dollar cams would smoke everyone else.

You might be right about that Bowman, it does give a big advantage in some cases. However, one of the best landscape pictures I ever took was with a throw-away camera I bought in the airport... Mt. Rainer

I'll go for that as long as kids don't enter the contest, meaning no "look how cute Josuah is in camo" type stuff.

A competition. I have to admit, I am not so keen on that, simply because someone has to judge and the like.
I'd support a theme type thing, where the moderator suggested a theme.
as for expensive cameras - or the flexibility that a battery of high priced lenses confers. As Twanger implied, they can in certain circumstances, but let us say you take a photo of an insect. It can be a technically excellent macro shot, that is as dull as ditchwater. Or it can perhaps (specially at the low resolutions found on screens rather than prints), have impact, good composition and interest, even if the exposure is not spot on or it is not exactly sharp where it needs to be. There are a lot of rubbish wildlife photos out there taken with expensive gear!
Equally I might be a better photoshopper than the next man, and less good than the one beyond him.
And thats perhaps also an advantage of going with a theme rather than
a direct competition. Anyone who wants to make a comment or critique of any of my pix posted is more than welcome. Its about learning.

So, would it work if it were simply all about composition, spontineity? (sp?)
After all, it's not what you have, but how well you use it.
Granted that big dollar cameras have more capeabilty, but only to a point.
Would it be graded on technical abuility, or vision of the artist.
NC, nice pic, and the back ground is delightful, coarse you know that already.

I really like the idea of a monthly theme. There's lots of topics / subjects out there that could really make things fun:D. It would also be very interesting to see what everyone's varrying interpretations on each subject would be:eek:

Here's one I find amusing... "Jaden's wild ride."
This is my grandson with his 'other' grandfather... my wife's ex-husband.
The terror on his face is priceless.
My stepdaughter was not amused. :D
