For over 15 years I've carried a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (SAK) in the Rucksack configuration. Still works great and the saw is still sharp despite not having been sharpened in all that time (it would be pretty tricky to sharpen that saw).

For no particular reason ("Because it's there"????) I recently bought one of the One-Hand Trekker SAKs. Same tools as the Rucksack except a Phillips head is substituted for the corkscrew.

I like the one hand opening feature but the liner lock does not thrill me. A little awkward to close one handed. They also added a liner lock to the large screwdriver and made the screwdriver's blade even larger. I think that lock could also be somewhat useful.

Blade sharpness and overall quality are good, as you would expect from Victorinox.

The only real negative I noticed was the blunter tip. If you want to use the spearpoint for drilling a little hole/cavity, you may need to put a sharper point on it.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBsijvYLVoM is a decent display of the knife.

[Forgot to mention, they are now available with a plain edge and uncoated blade, which is what I have.]

Nice knife. Was surprised they didn't have a small blade in the setup. I do like the size of it and particularly the saw blade. I would prefer the plain blade. Interesting knife but then I think how many knoves do you need?

I probably "need" about 2-3% of what I have!:o

There are some non-one-hand models that have a small blade----and scissors, which can also be handy.

Amazon recently had One-Hand Trekkers on sale with a companion mini-SAK for only a couple more bucks. That would give you a small blade and a suit-pocket knife.

DWK, I've got that very knife; it's a good one, no question about it.

I also have their smaller version of the same thing that has the same features but without the lock. It's VERY practical. The saw will cut like gangbusters, it's got a phillips and regular screwdriver, and an auger for drilling holes. The only thing missing is a metal saw, and they have a version that includes that, but it makes it bulkier. The one-handed trecker is very good indeed.

While we're on the subject, take a look at this knife. Then after you're done laughing, take another, more serious look at it.

In that one little thing you have the following:

Knife
Bottle Opener
Can Opener
Screwdriver
Woodsaw

Plus the requisite:

Wire Stripper
Key Ring
Tweezers
Toothpick

I have some nephews so I may just get them one. And who knows, I might have to order an extra one while I'm at it...

Nice! That's a seriously beavertail shaped blade.

One of my buddies just bought the Outrider model. It's not a one-hander but it has the Trekker features plus scissors---which can be handy.
