I just returned from the Dirttime wilderness skills conference. If you have a chance to attend one of these, the quality of training is well worth the modest cost. I'm told that next year it will be held in Wyoming for those of you closer to that state than CA. They cover everything from communications and first aid to primitive hunting and trapping.
The amount of satisfaction that I will get from annoying my hunting buddies by starting a fire with a hand drill is, standing alone, worth more than the cost of Dirttime!:D
Even if you have spent decades in the outdoors, I am confident that you will encounter some information and techniques that are new to you.
