I certainly don't mean to start any controversy, especially since I would be called a "lurker" by many, since I have rarely posted in the past.

I live in Florida & am interested in QDM. Over the years, I have observed that the vast majority of posts to this forum are by hunters bemoaning the state of deer hunting in Pennsylvania. While I can sympathize, has anyone considered starting a separate forum for PA issues, while leaving a forum for the rest of us who are (frankly) not interested in PA, since we have our own issues?

Thanks for consideration.

YJ

Since Pennsylvania is really a state attempt at QDM it would end up inevitably creeping back in. But whenever another issue, such as a years ago we were talking also the antler restrictions in Texas is introduced then they are discussed too.

The best way I can think of to see less Pennsylvania discussion is to provide new topics and ask new questions. Stop lurking and post up. :)

Yankeejim, first let me give you a cordial welcome and hope we can provide some discussion on whatever topic you might choose.

As Altjaeger said, "Stop lurking and post up".

I began as a moderator several years ago because of a deep interest in promoting and practicing QDM. I still have such an interest. Although not an authority, I have been around for awhile.

Besides PA being a statewide QDM project, the naysayers and whinners have provided us with some entertainment. :D Most of the folks that step in here, all they are looking for is that "magic bean to grow big bucks" and there are plenty of sources for that. But post up your questions or start a discussion that tickles your fancy. I am sure you will find that someone here has an opinion. ;)

BTW, are you a member of QDMA?

yankeejim, glad that you stopped by. As others have said, PA is the current and recent past application of basic QDM at a state level in a state where "change" (with the exception of Obama like "change") is a difficult thing to accept. The changes have been significant there for a number of years and have involved a significant reduction in the number of deer present in the state. Getting a deer herd count down to the best long term level for their health and their environment is about as basic as QDM gets.

We would enjoy hearing from you and getting information on what is going on in Florida game management or how you or your friends are handeling management at a local level.

What you find on these forums is that there are people from all over the range of the white-tailed deer and you find that what is common in one area is uncommon elsewhere. Get actively involved and change the subject from PA QDM to a state of your choice. I'm sure that you will find readers that are interested and will comment.

Hi Jim, welcome, although you've been here longer than I. As you can see I am from "that" state, but you won't hear me "bemoaning" the state of deer hunting in PA. For some it's a tough pill to swallow, especially when you don't take the time to find out WHY things have changed from what they once were. For me, I look at it as some short term pain for some long term gain.

I am a believer in QDM and I see first hand how it has effected our state, having hunted it since 1975. But I'm also not naive enough to think that what works in one state has to work the same way in another state. There are too many variables, mainly habitat and weather. Hunting has gotten tougher in PA compared to a decade ago, but not compared to 3 decades ago. It's a matter of adapting. But the hunting is different from back then when sightings were composed of almost exclusively doe and a rare buck now and then. Nowadays sightings are slim but your chances of seeing a buck are much greater. Had we gotten a hold on growth years ago we wouldn't have needed quite the herd reduction we have now.

So I'm not sure what your questions will be but I hope you don't mind if this 'ol pee-aye boy chimes in on occasion. I don't claim to be an expert but I've been following deer management in PA for a good many years now, so I can relate to applying QDM on a statewide scale.

Try to overlook the bemoaners in PA., change is difficult to except in any state. And then there are those who look at any agency tied to the state guv'mt as always having a sinister plan up their sleeve, even when it's made up of mostly hunters and folks with the wildlife's best interests in mind. Someone famous once said hunter management is more difficult than wildlife management. I can believe that.

I wonder why Yankeejim hasn't been back to visit the forum that he started.

With all of the discussion about Sudden Impact, there is no doubt that we can discuss something other than PA deer management.

I don't know where he went to.
Did you also notice that the windbag pagreedcom. ran out of wind and vanished as well? He's making his rounds on other sites. His "cornelius" alias has been pretty active on another national site spreading his misinformation and opinion.

In the case of DAFC (pagreedcommission) it is to be expected that he would vanish pretty quickly when his emotion was put up against logic and facts. He fits the same mold as most of the other USP and USP lookalikes that show up here. DAFC probably does much better when singing to the choir.

I have no idea why Yankeejim hasn't replied since we would appreciate his input from Florida
