Couple of young fellas let me tag along while we truck camped the night before the opener on some property about 50miles from here I been scoutin lately.

Fri evening we got everbody a hunt tree and had a big time most of the night around the campfire. 0545am Sat found us all perched in trees waiting for daylight and hunting deer trails skirting the swamp edge around soybean fields.

Israel passed on the lone deer that walked by him. Brian didn't see any, and I only saw one which yard dogs were chasing and I only got a glimpse. Kinda dead all morning. We hunted till noon.

About 3pm the boys went back out and around 4 my phone was ringin. :D

wait for me!!!

He went back and saw more deer but didn't get another shot. Israel didn't see any which surprised me as he was in a good spot and I killed a yearling doe just before sunset.

pretty good weekend. :)

NCB, good for you getting those young guys involved in the hunt. One question, didn't your Super Mag Hauler come with a black Nylon piece that covered the bed of the deer cart? Mine did and I think it keeps the dirt off the underside of the deer better. Haven't you had trouble with those stock solid tires loosening the spokes in the wheels?

Bowman - That's great! I'm itching to get out there. Maryland opener is tomorrow.

That's a great smile on your face, NC! :D

From the looks of it, your young hunter must've had to shoot down between his toes! You open up the heart top to bottom like that, and a good blood trail must be sure to follow....

Great hunt.

My first bowkill was a similar shot, entry and exit just about on the same side of the deer, but she didn't go 45 yards. Once you get the first one, it's like an epiphany, "Hey, I can really do this!":)

Congrats to you both on the deer.

Thanks fellas. Almost a perfect day.

I been ponderin why Israel didn't connect and think us camping the night before may have nixed his spot. I gotta remember the campground is in the middle of a travel route. :o

Bushman, yes I have the cover but doan use it. Actually have two of them, one from the cart that got stolen in Illinois.

I like it better without the cover. The deer doesn't slide as bad on the metal slats and I just put a couple of bungees around to hold him in place. Never had a problem with dirt or spokes and we use it a good bit.

The cart made this one a short pull. :)

I've lost a thing or two in Illinois myself, enough said. I worry about my deer cart being stolen too now that I've got it fixed up the way I want it with brakes, motocross aluminum wheels and ribbed tires with tubes. That is one of the reasons that I bought a lockable enclosed utility trailer. Big wire ties around the gambrel tendons to the cart work well and that way the deer is upside down which keeps the cavity cleaner. Good to know that the Nylon isn't that useful as it needs lots of cleaning to get the gorp off of it. This deer season I'm moving locations and camping so I thought the cart could serve double duty as the platform for my generator each night. A heavy hardened chain and lock will be going along too. I worried that the Nylon could catch fire from the exhaust.
