Now what was the final outcome of this story? I always thought it was a good, real hunt. Legit.
Watch this video. Those woods have me fired up. I am ready.

I really believe the hey day was early 70's to mid 80's.
I'll say this much - the video does make the antlers look more real than that one still ever did, although the mass still seems almost pathetic compared to the width & height.
But I said this 10 years ago and will do so again.
If the deer is legit, the World Record is Rompola's to claim. But business is business.
If he wants to dethrone Milo Hansen and deprive a 'poor old farmer' of all the revenue that he generates by exhibiting the World Record deer, then he's just plain gonna have to put up or shut up, and it seems to me that he chose the latter option pretty early on.
I guess he figures it's better to be seen as a wrongly-persecuted folk hero by some and as a fraud by the vast majority than it is to just settle the matter one way or the other.

I couldn't see the vid.
If he truly had a conservation agent with him on recovery, I can't see how it would be a fake either. That said, things got weird with Mitch after that.
Folks thought he was a liar since he didn't want to squeeze every cent out of that rack and end up a millionare based on that kill.
Now just why, exactly, would you happen to have a CO along with you when you followed up just 15 minutes after the shot?????:confused::confused:

That was a story I heard about it. It may not be true. Like I said, I couldn't open the vid.
There have been a few cases with state record, or close to it, caliber deer were trailed up with a conservation agent present, just to eliminate the doubt and accusations that Mitch went through.

I can understand Mitch just closing the barn doors. Alot of people don't want any commercialism. ME, I admit I would carefully select an offer that would allow me to quit work financially, but not to the point that I would have to say I used so & so product when I really didn't. I would not let the magazine/company/etc. dictate to me 100%. To a point, I would tell them to shove it and close the barn doors like Mitch did.

My understanding is he was already retired but still like most I would take advantage of all my hard work, dedication and good fortune and capitalize on it as best I could .
Kind of odd this popped up I was wondering about it the other day if anything else ever came up
