Just so everyone who checks in regularly will know, I will be leaving out at firsts light tomorrow headed for Wyoming. My loving wife has bit the bullet and allowed me my first ever opportunity to go on an elk hunt.
I am giving myself about three days to get there then will hav from the 28th to the 4th of Oct to hunt. It will be a guided hunt in the Bridger Teton National Forest just a few miles south of the Yellowstone Nat'l Park. Needless to say, I am excited!
I will take plenty of pix and share my hunt with you when I return. I expect to be back online around the 7th or 8th.

Very QDM related LATH.... your job is to reduce the herd of those pesky excess bulls that are causing great stress to their harem...! Best of luck to you on the hunt and drive safely.

That is an awe inspiring land scape. I truely love western WY. Enjoy the trip, and best of luck on your hunt.
I hope you've been working out.;)

Thanks guys for the well wishes! I don't think I am going to get any sleep tonight. :D
Dave, was getting my legs and cardio in shapebut about 5 weeks ago, I pulled something in my knee while breaking in some new boots. Go figure. Anyway, it is in much better shape and I now have a knee brace that will definitley go in with my hunting attire.
I am wondering just how tough the horseback rides will be. I had intended to ride some here, but never got around to it once I hurt my knee.

Good luck. I figure all that elk meat might cause you to pull the trigger on one less whitetail doe, so this is QDM material. :)
Have fun.

Have a safe trip out, and back, and best of luck to you. Take lots of pics.
You might as well just load up on coffee and mountain dew and head out tonight. You'll never sleep now!:D

If he rides like I did when I went out west and they brought me a horse, it won't be his knee that will be sore. I think that I was the comedy relief for the other horse guys because I was always coming down when the horse was coming up. I never saw an elk until I left the horse back at camp. Looking forward to some elk stories. Those elk hunters don't seem to write much.

You're right, that even looks like my loaner horse Stormy. He knew that I knew nothing about how to drive him. The other horse guys were hundreds of yards up ahead of us as Stormy and I just sort of fed our way up the mountain. He was my best friend though when he carried half my 5x6 off the mountain a few days later. Thank goodness for the rancher who brought him for me because he knew how to operate him. When we got up to my elk Stormy was acting up a little so Gary hit him in the head with a branch, tied him up real tight to a tree and smeared elk blood on his nose. I guess you just need to get their attention.
