How much SHTF rifle ammo do you recommend?

When recommendin SHTF gear for non-gun friends, how much SHTF rifle and pistol ammo do you suggest?

I tell them:

pistol:

100 rounds of premium expanding ammo
500 rounds of ball

rifle:

500 rounds of premium expanding ammo
1000 rounds of ball

I would have to wonder about friends asking such questions. Secondly I would not have ball, especially in rifle because the Geneva Convention would not apply.

I too agree with ALT on this question! I have over 1200 rds for my FAL and the wife has 600 for her Mini-14. Pistol ammo is another topic altogether, we have several calibers but I have 5000 rds or 45acp, 2500 rds of .40cal, close to 1200 of 9mm-Luger. I also have 200 of .44mag and 600 of 10mm. I am looking for more 500 pieces of new brass for my 10mm.;) :)

If I fall under 1,000 rounds each in 9 MM, .45 ACP, .223, .308, I get nervous. Bill T.
