Finally got to shoot my new wildcat. The dies wont be here for another month so I was lucky to find three brass I could load. The first group averaged 4,123 feet per second and made a group measuring .370". This is from a plastic stock Savage 26" stainless barrel. The load was 58 grains of H4831SC behind 55 Nosler Ballistic Tips. The primer was CCI BR-2.

The fireforming loads averaged 3,680 with unknown 50 grainers. I fill the case and leave enough to start the bullet. They make about 1 1/2" groups.

What cartridge is it ?

I started with a .264 Win Mag. After necking it and shortening I have a .224 with a 7/16" neck, rounded shoulders (to be modern) and short fat body. It hold a couple grains more water than a .30-06. Loaded to touch the rifling with the 55 Nosler, the cartridge is 2.920". The 7/16" was designed to hold the 75 grain A-Max with the bottom of the bullet even with the bottom of the neck.

I can't shoot the 75 grainers in the 26" Savage 'cause it's a 12 twist. I have a 30" Pac-Nor 9 twist at the 'smiths to be built on a custom action. My idea was to do all the fire-forming with the Savage, but it looks like I will do more than fire-form with it. The Savage was an un-fired .220 Swift so I have to load it as a single shot. The Pac_Nor will be manufactored as a single shot.

You might laugh me for the scope. I have a 12-42X56 NightForce on the $400 Savage. Eventually the NF will go on the custom and a 6-24X Weaver will be on the Savge. Everything is mounted in Burris Signature rings with the plastic incerts.

Check out the optics thread to see how it compares with other scopes by four different fellows of different ages.
