Well it ain't all that traditional but I have been wrapping my minie balls with saran wrap with a twist at the nose after filling the base with crisco and rubing crisco all over the bullet. I start the minie, cut the excess off and seat it on top of the powder. The only benefit really is it is less messy to handle. I also put a piece of it over the nipple before I put the cap on to seal it. Works perfectly. This on my 54 Renegade. Anyone else do this?
I can't say I've ever heard of this. I'd be worried about burning plastic in my barrel. I have wrapped my conicals with Teflon plumbers tape and that's worked pretty well.

Smitty 5,
Welcome to the Forum.
I never thought of using Saran Wrap as you mentioned. While it is a novel idea, I am not sure I want that stuff in the bore of my Renegade. I never got worried about greasy patches, Maxis or Minies, I just put a few paper towels in my pocket and went shooting for Lo these many past years.

I keep my bores as clean as anyone and have yet to find any residue that won't come out of the barrel in normal cleaning. Accuracy is unchanged. I like not getting grease on my gloves or anywhere else for that matter.

I have a 1:48 twist round-ball shooter that would only shoot decently if I captured a fiber wad between the patch and ball.
Tight going in usually means accurate coming out. :D
After I figured that out it started shooting better than I can see/hold with iron sights... say 1.5" at 50 yards.

Give the teflon tape a try. No grease and you can keep a roll with you on your shoots.
