I was just wondering if any of you know of any tactics to get the bears to come in to the bait earlier?
So far The only thing I've noticed to help is mother nature herself sending a frost to kill the natural food so the bears have to depend on the bait as its main food source.
I've done burns and everything else but most of my bears come in at last light when i got just enough light to shoot.

I think that is just big bear behavior. More bears in the area so that there is some competition was the only thing that we ever saw about getting bears in earlier. Then too it was the little bears that got there early. The last light bear was usually the one that you wanted.

bushman you got that right.
The big one is usually watching you for a long time, before he steps in there.
I've even known them to hide and reach around the bait barrel for a donut or some tid -bit.:D

Every bait i put out usualy has multiple bears at the site. the only bears that ever come in earlier are the Sows with cubs they will come in much earlier then the rest. but right when the starts to die down is when all the others start moving in. I usualy have a chose of bears to shoot at the end of the hunt. One time in wisconsin i had 7 adult bears standing at the same bait eating it was one hell of a site to say.
Last year i had those bears in minnesota that would wait me out i tired every trick i knew of and i couldnt out smart em.
I did shoot one 450 pound bear that came out in broad daylight on a spot not to far off from the road in national forest land.
