Lamplighter I noticed that their Trophy Match Model has a 4.5 to 5 lb trigger pull. This is to heavy for competition purposes in my humble opinion. Also they are using parts that come from South America for their model 1911. ;) :)

So basically a Springfield is :(:( Junk ???
If I start worrying about custom this, Clark that, comp this ..... I will blow the whole thing off. It's what happened before. I just want a box gun that goes boom with a good trigger.

The Springfields I've played with are good solid guns. I wouldn't want to take their mil-spec 1911 to a compitition or shoot 100,000 rounds a year...but then again, that's not what that gun was designed for. The mil-spec is a decent plain jane 1911 that works. Like anything...stepping up in their price range will get you more and better "stuff", but just for a good solid shotting gun, the mil-spec works great.
Had a buddy that had the same gun and it was as solid as they come. I came real close to buying the Springfield when I was looking for a full size 1911. I ended up going with a Kimber just because I got a good deal on a used one:D

The Springfield is NOT JUNK but is certainly is NOT a KIMBER either ok. So how much money are you going to be paying for that 1911 model in a Springfield?;)

Today, prices ran from 850 for a mil spec model, to 550 for plain jane G.I.
Never mind Bill MC. You already looked this up for me back in April. I found it on my PM list. Bill had the plain jane for 479.00
I wouldn't base a gun soley on price or looks. My Springfield GI "plain jane" parkerized el cheapo has never given a problem and isn't to bad in the accuracy department either.

Lamplighter I would NOT be affraid to own a Springfield in a 1911 for the price of $550 or less. It would certainly make a good weapon for someone who can handle the 1911. It is still one of my favorite up close and personall defense calibers. I do carry the 45acp backed up by a 10mm nowdays, just in case I run into some car-jacking punks. If you run out of bullets, you can still use it as a hammer!!!  :D :D :D
