from the feds. ...... you were not drawn for the December hunt this year. they drew 1750 permits and 3000 applied. :(
First time in 9 years I didn't get it. The economy has caused many people to give up their leases, and thus- more applied. Like H.A, senority doesn't matter. Joe Blow first timer or grand-daddy been there for 20 years. All equal shot I guess.

Guess that's why it's called a democracy.

I have the place in the national forest that is always a long shot for success. But it is a place where everyone I wish to hunt with can afford since it only requires a hunting license. Then a few of us always put in the draws for the state management hunts which we get drawn on every few years. It never hurts tp have options and fall back plans.

no, not at all. It involves random selection. A democracy would be a majority decision.

Yep your right there.
I stand corrected. My bad.:o
My stepson and I got selected for the golf course hunt on the state park surrounded by the WMA we hunt. They chose 167 out of a couple thousand. My dad and a friend of his didn't get picked.
We were all chosen for 1 of 600 doe tags for the WMA. I doubt there are 600 people apply when everything else across the state is nearly unlimited except the southern coalfield counties.
Its the luck of the draw. None of us were chosen for last years golf course hunt. We were chosen for doe tags though. Next year I'm sure your luck will change.

there were still a lot of slots open after the drawings for the refuge near here.
I got all my picks and picked up another 3 day hunt from the leftover openings. :)
Have you got other options?

Have you got other options?

For gun hunting that particular NWR- only muzzleloader and bow, which I plan to use 101% hard core. I let many deer walk in the past 3 years on the lottery hunt. I only use it to furthur my quest for a taxidermy buck. The meat deer are a dime a dozen.
Other places, yes I have more gun hunting. However, I know if I am going to get a front page Town Talk buck, it will likely come from the NWr I didn't draw this year. Everybody got picked for the Thanksgiving hunt. In fact, they said they fell under the 1750 applicants. I doubt they go back and retrofill them. They did one year, but they automatically stamped some people's 2nd hunt permit to allow both hunts. To call them up and say, " hey, I heard yall didn't fill ........ " I seriously doubt that will work.
Why not? The number of tags available reflects the harvest goal, so most states will issue un-sold lottery licenses over the counter.
But in any case....... Since you didn't get drawn for this year, does that give you a preference point for next?

You never know with draw hunts. I applied for 9 years in MO for hard and easy draws before I got my first draw hunt in 2007, and that one was a long shot, 14% chance of drawing. Now, I got picked again for that long odds draw, after just one year off. I don't know why it worked, but I just keep trying to get lucky.
