Lamplighter I have several Mil-Dot & Turret version in 5 x 15 power for my varmint guns and long range rifles. I am not that up on the FIRE-FLY scope but those that have them like them in low light situations. I personally believe that the Bushnell is the best scope for the BUCK and I saved a ton of money verses the Leupold, which I have been buying now for 15 years or better, to put on some of my rifles. ;) :)

OK, I spent half my day off researching eye pupil, age effecting in low light, and objective dia.

At my age, my pupil max dilation at 5:15 pm is likely 6mm.

It seems that a 40mm obj. scope set at 6x ( 3x9) is my best option.

The 50mm seems like it would only benefit me at 8 or more power. I am in the woods and 75 to 100 yards would be my max.

I think I can save $ and weight and be most effective with 40 mm.

Right ?????

I've shot fox and coyote by moonlight with a 3-9x40 many times. If you need more for deer then get yourself a pair of glasses.;) Incidentally, I have a Bushnell 3200 in a 3-9x40 and it's plenty bright enough for deer till the very end of legal hunting hours. My 3-9x38 Weaver classic V-9 is just as bright and gives a bit sharper image than the Bushnell for a few $ less.
