My goto boat sits at the ready beside my drive. Over the winter/spring it becomes a handy collection depot for 'stuff'.
Yesterday evening I went to a secret spot on the bank of the creek and quickly found out the fish are bitin 'good'. :D
... been cleanin the stumpknocker out this morning. ;)

Mine runs all winter for hunting and sits all summer. In fact you just made me decide to go out there later this evening and run it with the water ears, to keep the reeds from varnishing closed.

Sounds like you are ready to roll. I will make a weather decision Thursday, but I am thinking that next weekend will be an overnight trip.
Friday night I will drive to Fort Worth with two kayaks and the light weight camp gear spending the night at my daughters. Saturday morning the son-in-law and I will head to Possum Kingdom dam running the next 20 miles of the Brazos. Around the 11-13 mile mark we will pull up on a convenient sand bar setting camp, eating and catfishing until the sleeping bags call.
Sunday morning will be coffee and breakfast along with fishing a bit as we break camp. Then float while fishing to the take out before heading back to his home. Depending on the time and number of fish to clean my trip home will be Sunday night or Monday morning.

Highly unlikely since we are being supported by a popular canoe livery. Still the camp will be protected by something a bit more than a compound bow.

The forecast is about a 30% chance of rain all weekend. We got 3" in a single day and There has received about 5". The river is up, fast and muddy and the campsites soggy. We'll try again on the 9th and 10th.

Why not fish the lake itself?
I know the Brazos as well as the Guadalupe can turn nasty fast after a rain but the lake should be ok if the wind is down. I've heard tales of fish big as cars in Possum Kingdom.

True, true. But I would rather drift down a river current 20 miles camping overnight on a island than camp in an established campground this time. That is a total of about a 4 hour drive rewarded by some fine scenery I am told.
I have three rivers and six medium to large lakes 10 minutes to one hour from here, one of which may see some one day action before then. :)

Had about an hour and a half of sunlight left when we knocked off today so Israel and I took the boat out and flyrodded until dark. I picked up a bass just shy of 3 pounds on a bream popper. He was a fighter but that was all for today.
