And it was almost a mercy killing. Somebody else tried their hand at it earlier this year and left her blinded in her left eye from the broadhead sticking out of it. The shaft was broken off at the insert but the broadhead is still very visible. She looked in good shape so after a bit of thought and watching her I let her have it and threw a muzzy right through her neck and dropped her in her tracks. I would have rather had the ten pointer that was dancing on my pond dam earlier but I've got hour old backstraps in the skillet and that's hard to argue with.:) And a 5 minute walk from the house at that.

Thanks Dave. I shot it less than 3 hours ago and already I've eaten and cleaned the kitchen. Still hangin' in the shed though. I guess I've got a job tomorrow. Supposed to be in the 30's tonight. I fried the backstrap in butter and onion and had a couple baked potatoes with it along with some homemade wine. I think I'm foundered.

Yeah I agree. I'm glad you took her out. I hope that other guy learned something. I've been there similarly, and I make darn sure I learn from it. At this stage sidekick, I've been at it so long, I really only want one now. Just getting out there and seeing is great. Anyway, I'm rambling on. Good thing to eliminate misery.

I think most bowhunters have made a bad shot. Whether they will admit to it or not is another matter. The one that sticks in my mind goes back almost 20 years. I drew back on a doe at almost 40 yds knowing full well I could drop an arrow right into the kill spot. She was standing behind an oak tree with only her front half showing. I figured I would get her clean and let loose. She jumped the string and I hit her in the hip which was totally obscured by the tree. I learned a lot about reflexes and trajectory that day and vowed to never let it happen again. And it hasn't. People that I know will sometimes say how I never miss anything I shoot at. What they don't realize is that I never take a shot that I don't have full confidence in.
See LL, We don't have to fight :p
I've been hearing things about younger guys who have recently found it kind of fashionable to take head shots with archery gear.
WTF? :confused::mad::confused:
Sounds like you came across a prime example of why it's every bit as stupid as it sounds. I don't know where this kind of s**t comes from. "Whack 'em & stack 'em " videos, maybe? Are they deliberately working for the Antis????
Geeeee, thanks, Ted!
And of course, after last year, I don't have much use for neck shots, even with a rifle.... :rolleyes: But then, in a case like this, you take what you can get....Nice work. :cool:
