the above image shows somewhat where the sheathing is lifted (or was installed high to begin with). From the dark spot just above the shown ridgeline in the center of the pic, back along that course of shingles toward the camera, is a saddle in the shingles caused by this. Not clearly shown but you can see it. ... very low light pic.
There is a pitch change along that line and something is wrong with the lower sheet of sheathing. It's only in this one area so I tend to think the sheathing is lifting. I did not 'test' it for fear of causing a problem I didn't have time to fix.
Saddles on shingle roofs generally indicate either a current problem and/or potential catastrophic problems. This needs to be addressed probably as much or more than the current chimney problem.
Overall I rate the roof as installed to acceptable standards but a far cry from the premium quality replacement roofing I've built my business doing. I have literally thousands of examples in all directions. ... some of the neighboring residential homes included.
