Can anyone provide information on how these compare to each other as far as shooting upland game birds...

Really makes no difference, the one that fits you the best is the one to use. Unless you want to be stylish, then get a double.

swamp,
I have hunted upland game with both types of shotguns and prefer the O/U. The side-by-side seems to me like pointing a 2x4 board contrasted with the O/U single sight plane.

I've owned both and prefer a double trigger SXS for ease of instant choke selection. Without instant choke selection you've lost the most significant advantage a double has over a repeater IMO and may as well use a pump or autoloader.

I agree. I have a Citori and a 1928 Ithaca NID. I would rather hunt with the old double. A SxS without double triggers is just plain wrong. That shotgun was just made for quail hunting.

I have a slight preference for the O/U based upon the sight picture. But I'll hunt with a nice SxS any day.

Whatever you prefer, handles well and can afford. All the best...

Swamp there are many who hunted years ago with the "side by side" double guns because they were much more popular back then and more manufacturers like Ithica and Stevens who made good inexpensive shotguns. Now for me it is an O/U for hunting Upland birds......I have a couple of the older Weatherby's and like em a lot. I never could get comfortable using a side by side shotgun.
If I am out to shoot a lot of birds, I use the tried and true Remington 1100 with English stock. If in the field working dogs it will be the O/U Condor in a 20ga. Hunts at the gun club I use on of the Weatherby's! I have several more that collect dust in the vault too......
My experience in this area is fairly limited, however, I've owned both and prefer the O/U guns. The O/U is slimmer in the receiver and balance point and carry easier one handed. I also prefer the single sighting plane. For whatever reason O/U's seem to be more consistent in the regulation of their barrels and pattern together better than SxS guns overall. I prefer the Beretta O/U guns and shoot them better than the Browning Citori. I also have an SKB/Weatherby stack barrel gun and it is a nice little shotgun.

I shoot both and like both. I find the SxS's tend to be shorter and have to add a Galco slip on pad - added a Decelerator the the BSS and it helped a lot.
Just got a Superposed 26" Lightening and it will be my retirement gun - I love it and for the money, they are ten times the gun vs. the Citori.
