Shot about 20 miles north of my house. It's a 12 pointer which green scores 217 5/8 but I can't find out if that is a gross score or a net score, details are sketchy at this point.

After looking at some of these other pics there seems to me to be too much assymetry for this to net out to a new world record typical. Still one heck of a buck.

I saw that on the news a couple of days back myself. Lots of that score comes from the mass and the length of that left brow tine. Too bad that right antler has that split G2 or that it didn't match the left antler better. I don't like the looks of the Hanson buck for a world record. Too thin imo. I like mass and one of these years MN., WI. or IL. should bring the world record back to the states. There are some big bucks living a charmed life in the suburbs and in the ruff of the local golf courses.

No way that will qualify as a world record typical though I'd give my left one to see something like that while hunting..! I agree that mass is cool but if you look at the scoring method, it is point length that gets mucho credit and the Hansen buck has that in spades along with great uniformity..

Here is an extract on the scoring from my web site:
BOONE AND CROCKETT SCORING...???
What it really takes to make the "Book"
The Boone and Crockett score of a white-tailed deer is made up of a number of measurements of the various characteristics of the deer's antlers. Especially in Texas the "spread" is considered very desireable in antlers, and conversely in the north "mass" is the thing that provides bragging rights.
Contrary to these regional preferences, the scoring is a combination of many features that when combined yield the overall score and it is interesting that spread and mass are the least important features when it comes to defining a "Book" deer.
Here is a breakdown of the percentage of the overall score that the various components contribute to record deer. Inside spread...........10%
Circumfrence...........20%
Main Beams............30%
Point Length............40%

nice non typical... the typical score will be 175 to 185 i'm guessing... probably closer to 175 if that... still a great trophy...
I still like that MN 190-inch 8-point I posted a few days ago.... That one may be the record for an 8...
And could you imagine the score if he had the same kind of length, mass and symmetry, but as a 10?:eek::eek:

Thats a huge buck but only has G1, G2, G3 points..
the Hanson buck has G1 thru G5 points
I'd be happy seeing that dude under my stand even with just with G1-4 :D
Tell ya, though.... Milo was a lucky man to be out there on a drive with lotsa witnesses. I wonder how old his buck was? Given a couple more years to put on some mass....:eek::eek:

that massive buck is a 6 pt by B&C count... still certainly an incredible trophy...
many historians still put the John Breen buck at the top of the list... the jordan buck antlers once sold for $5 at a yard sell... can you imagine!

I think that 8 pt was confiscated... illegally harvested..

A 190 inch eight is almost beyond belief as I have seen a 150 in the field and it took my breath away ... to think another 40 inches and I'd likely pass out.

Swamp, thanks for the update. What a shame that a legitimate hunter was robbed of the opportunity to take that fine animal.
