I do not know for sure, but I remember that this topic came up on the old HuntAmerica board... I think the low end Cabela scopes are made in Taiwan, and the high end models are made by Weaver (or at least they were). I am a bit out of date on where certain brands are currently being produced. But I have heard that in many cases, a sub contractor may be making scopes for several optics companies at the same time, but they build each scope line to the manufacturer’s particular specs. So if you tend to stick to the higher end models within a particular company, you should be safe. I have had good luck buying used Burris and older made in Japan Bushnell scopes on eBay. Anything made in Japan is considered very good quality these days, of course Burris has always been build in the USA (as far as I know anyway), and the lower quality stuff is being made in China.
When it comes to scopes, I look for decent eye relief and company reputation. In the lower price ranges ($80 - $175), I have had good experiences with the better Tasco and Bushnell's, and in the middle price ranges ($250 - $400), I have gone with Burris, Leupolds, and the Bausch and Lomb models. (But I am not impressed with the eye relief of some of the B&L models).
Everyone here on this board has their opinions on optics, but everyone seems to agree that it does pay to spend as much as you can afford. But these days the quality seems to have improved over what was on the market as little as 5 years ago, so you don't have to spend big $$ (over $500) these days to get a quality scope.

In all honesty I appreciate your attempts to share your purchasing wisdom in regards to a scope purchase, but it is without need.
I have owned more than a few scopes over my years manufactured by such as Zeiss, Leupold,Burris and Weaver. Some of these I have grown to love and others I traded off as the oportunity allowed.
I purchased a used slug gun which will see very limited use on any given year.
I really dont wish to put the best scope I can afford on it less I have 10x the cost of my gun into it's scope.
In this same thought even a $500 scope would be far more than what I could justify for a something which will see so little useage.
What I need is a inexpensive scope which can hold up to the recoil of a sluggun under very limited use.
Cabelas and Basspro both offer scopes marketed for this purpose hence the origional question that I asked.
Im curious whom manufactures the scopes for Cabelas and Redhead.

Just,
I totally understand.. It is going to be a bit tough to get a scope under $100 that will stand up to shotgun recoil..
That Pineridge may hold up, and in case it doesn't, Cabela does stand behind what they sell.
How about this Bushnell I found for you..it has 6" of eye relief, which may be too long depending on how you will be mountiing the scope.. but it is a 'shotgun; scope, and I would consider it .
Good Luck shopping !

You take your chances with any scope as to them holding up. Your odds are far greater on failure with a cheap scope. This is not to say they won't hold up. The big question is if they will be ok on the "next" shot.

true enough.
I will probably keep a look out for a used shotgun scope.
With a little luck I may find someone that needs some extra cash

I know it is twice the price of the Cabela scope you were originally looking at, but it may be worth the extra money in the long term.
Good Luck

Blaze,
I have no idea why, but they dont ship to my state.
They are a distributor and will not sell in states they supply to dealers to keep from under cutting their customers (dealers) prices.

fair enough
I've had a Simmons Prodiamond 4x32 shotgun scope on my slug gun for over 10 years. It's held up, shooting 3 inch mag's. Cheap scope (low cost)

That is very strange that they wont ship to certain states. I can understand if it were firearms, knives or gun powder.. weird!
Well I found somthing else that you may like. I went to ebay and found a brand new Model # U200126 Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35 Camo Shotgun Scope.
It is new in the box and has a buy it now price of $129.99 plus $9.99 for shipping..

Only scope I ever had problem with was Cabelas Pine Ridge. It would not hold 0. No problem returning it.
When they first came out I talked to one of Cabela's customer support people about the Pine Ridge scope. He said it was just a low dollar entry level scope to be competitive with all of the other manufactures in that price range.
