Rocket Steelhead XL on game. Me like!

I busted a really big doe tonight and used a Rocket Steelhead XL 100gr for the first time. The head has a 1.5 inch cut. The shot was 3 inches behind the shoulder crease and just above center line. It got nothing but lung. Both. The arrow cmpletely penetrated the deer and drove about 18 inches into the mud behind her. I call that good penetration! I just might switch to the head. The blood trail was excellent. Hopefully I can test the other two Broadheads from the 3-pack on deer in the next couple of weeks.

not to be smart but a piece of beer bottle thru both lungs will kill a deer every time.

What do the groups look like at 60yds?

That is true Bowman.
I have not shot these for groups at long range.
They have the same frontal profile as the regular Steelhead so I would expect them to shoot the same.

As long as they shoot, the most important question, I think, is how do they penetrate on game? Penetration is king, IMHO. I like these thin flexible blades because they flex and bend around bone, and even snap off if they meet too much resistance. Better to have 2 out of 3 blades going into the vitals than none.

Anyway, I don't so much care how they group at 60 yards when 90% of my shots at deer are inside 20. This one went where it was pointed. ;-)

I hope they leave a better blood trail than the originals. That 1-1/8 steelhead kills great and flies like a dart, but overal I have had better blood trails with other heads. I'd still use them over any other mech head I've tried.

Hopefully the XL is just more of a good thing.

I'm still at a loss as to how it is that 1.5" mechanical that might snap off a blade or otherwise fail to deploy/penetrate properly can offer any meaningful benefit over a 1.125 or 1.25 fixed-blade head or 3 blades or 4. :confused:

If it's sharp, it flies straight and you put it where it needs to go, what's broken?

Man... I think I'd better bail on this one before I take off on a rant! Kinda feel one comin' on....:D
