lets assume you have two of these six guns, as your SHTF rifles and you've also got the reloading equipment and 1000 cartridges, and 20 magazines for each of those guns

a M1A1,
a AR10
mini 14 ruger
uzi carbine in 9mm
SKS
an AK47,
a M16
M1 GARAND
MI carbine

now one of your buddies has one of the other rifles/carbines on the list in excellent shape and wants to swap, and also has the ammo and magazines?
now the idea here is that your goal is to have a dependable and effective rifle or carbine, if you need it to provide security for your family, now we all probably, have an idea as to which rifle and caliber provide the best possible protection, and each has its strong or weak points, as to ammo availability, recoil, cost of ammo, stopping power accuracy, conceal-ability, effective range, etc.
but even if you feel the swaps in your favor would it be to your advantage to swap from a gun your familiar with to a different gun, would it be to your advantage to have only a single caliber? two different calibers? even if you both get to test fire each others weapons?is there an advantage to owning lets say a M1 carbine and an MIAI vs a AR15, and an uzi or lets say an AR10 and an SKS, etc, or would you be far better off owning two identical rifles, or two completely different calibers and types of arms

let me ask this a different way,
is it better to have two distinctly different types of weapons, in two different calibers or two identical weapons of the same caliber ?
obviously having two identical weapons makes spare parts, and ammo easier , and a rifle easily out powers the pistol calibers ,but your twice as likely to find SOME ammo you can use with two different calibers, if most ammo gets really hard to obtain

Rimrock......I will give you the answer to your question via a military situation OK. Now it is always better to have 2 weapons shooting the same ammo. The moving or carrying of separate ammo is NOT a good idea on the battle field.

Now in your selection, just so you know, YOU left out the most used and best battlefield rifle ever made up to date. Yes, you look up the FAL and tell me it is not worthy of being on the top of your list. 72 different countries have used this weapon and you will NEVER get an M-1 THUMB from using this weapon like you can with the M1-Garand or M-14 etc.

Now as far as accuracy goes, I have a FAL SA 58 model in the .308 calbier that will shoot under 1/2 inch MOA from the bench with a 16 inch barrel. It is the real Mc Coy and I'll take it any day over the M1-Garand or M-14 for shooting under 400 yards. Now on the battlefield, seldom will fighting be more than 250 yards away, only those snipers shoot over 400 yards. My rifle made in the USA by DSA Rifles up in Wisconsin. The cost was $2250 plus 90 dollars for a piccany rail for mounting my Leupold 3 x 9 scope. Now if accuracy and dependability and being able to break it down in a hurry is your want, then get yourself a DSA built FAL.......They are shooters!!!
