View Full Version : The new Swedes?
After predicting a new crop of AR-compatible hunting loads, I find out that the manufacturers are ahead of me.. Guess I'll have to get filthy stinkin' rich off of something else....

Anybody know what case they've used for the Creedmore? The Grendel should fit into any .223-length action and- with the right bullet - ought to be a pretty useful little round....

I'm not 100% sure, but I was under the impression that the 6.5 Creedmoor was not really based on any existing parent case, but rather an original Hornady design.

I saw a ballistics table that suggested the Grendel would outperform the 6.8SPC at longer ranges. Do you know how the Grendel and the Creedmor compare once you get beyond 200 yds or so?
Thanks!

I only know what I was able to snag on the Hornady site, but I'd bet that anybody with a ballistics program and an inclination to help could fill in all the blanks for us :D

Unless you were going with a micro length action, there is no advantage to going with the 6.5x47 or the Creedmore. They almost duplicate the .260, but fall a bit short, and would be harder to feed considering availability of ammo.
It looked to me that the grendel case is a 7.62x39 blown out with almost no taper, and necked down, it is designed to work in AR's more than to work at long range. The 6.5x47 and creedmore were designed to fit long bullets seated out to still fit a short action.
For practical purposes, I think the 6.5x55 is the better round for the hunter. Bigger top end, and plenty of load data or factory rounds for the lower/slower loads. Do you want a 120grn bullet at 3000fps or a 160grn down to 23-2400fps? 6.5x55 does both, and lets you actually fit 160grn bullets in the magazine if you need or want them. The short action 6.5's aren't as versitile, imo.
I tend to see the long action as an advantage though more than a disadvantage. I'd pick the Swede over the .260 every day of the week.

I know that the 6.5 x 284 is hugely popular with the long distance crowd. However, I've seen a couple 6.5 x '06 bolt rifles that looked really great for hunting. Of course, they are too long for even an AR-10 action.
