Since I got such expert help on prior post here's another ?. I have a Garmin Venture capable of storing 25MB of maps. I want to take it on trips and put in more map software. I assume I will have to delete some if not all of the upstate NY map currently loaded. If I add more maps (Canadian Maritime & later coastal GA.) will I lose the points I have marked in my deleted NY map? I want to restore NY map data later. BTW; I really like this model and think it is a real bargain for $170 including bundled package of topo map & accesories. Thanks, al

I honestly don't know how the various Garmins work, there's so many of them..

Google "Garmin Venture reviews" you'll get over 1,000,000 responses, some of the reviews I've seen on U-Tube are pretty good..

Take a look at ExpertGPS software at http://www.expertgps.com/default.asp

I think it's about $60. I've used it for years to make maps for my hunt club.

Hey Hawgnman I have a question about that software. Does that software allow you to
upload maps (either topo or google earth) from your computer to your gps, and then be able
to track over said map out in the field with the gps? Also, if I may ask, what version are you using,
and what size sim card do you have in your gps. I have a garmin 60c Sx, and this software looks
like something I would really be interested in.
Thanks

If you upload maps to your GPS you should not lose any waypoints you have previously stored on the GPS, but the Maps from the other area will no longer be there.
You should always back-up your waypoints on your computer. If you lose the waypoints on your GPS, lose the GPS, or buy a new one you can download the old waypoints to the new GPS.

Thanks Twanger. I was wondering if I uploaded a new
map from google earth to my gps, and went to that location,
if I would be able to follow a trail on that map, with my marker.
Hope I explained that properly.

Yes, you can create property maps or tracks on ExpertGPS (http://www.topografix.com/ (http://http://www.topografix.com/)) and load them into your GPS. After scouting for new game trails, I load then from the GPS to ExpertGPS and save the info along with previous data for that property.

I can load 3-4 properties into my GPS at one time. It depends on the number of tracks that you have. I have a Garmin 60Csx and I forget how many tracks it will load, but I think it's 20.

For my hunt club it helps me draw maps and locate feeders, deer stands, mineral licks and other hot spots I wish to hunt or scout. It will also display your data over Google maps. If you have a existing map of a property, you can import the map and calibrate it to show the property lines. It has a free download load and 30 day trial as well as a dumbed down version that's free. I did some beta testing on the product when it first came out. Dan makes minor changes and bug fixes about every month. I'm using version 3.83. I only update about twice a year unless I have a problem that he's fixed. The support on the forum is excellent. http://http://forums.topografix.com/index.php?showforum=4

Hope this helps!

This helps alot, especially about the property maps.
I think I will check them out.
Thanks again.
