Hi again to everyone !
Haven't been doing much deer hunting (but had 14 run through the field next to the house) but I have had a couple of "Raccoon Relocation" projects lately.
For a while we've been going through much more barn cat food than normal, and I have been finding the area around the cat food in severe "disarray" the last few days.
I set up a game camera in front of the feed dish, to catch the culprits in the act.
Here are our findings, pictures are in "Inferred" as to not spook the perpetrators. I got 579 pictures in two nights, here's some with captions. Their not directly recorded, but I'm reading lips here...
Hey Buddy, can I get a free lunch here too (this black cat is NOT our cat !!)?

Look, I'll pour ya some...
http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL2250/777751/1363903/361829385.jpg
And here's a few days later (I got them both) but there's still that black stray to contend with...
I HATE THESE LONG TRUCK RIDES....

Like a lot of things in life I didn't realize how much I missed this site until
it was gone.
Talking to my friends where I hunt, they tell me the deer are out of the
deer yards and are looking pretty good. They've seen one group of 5
behind the house. We need some rain to get the grass growing so the
deer can get off from browse.
I brought my atv down to my friends place. I can't ride it around my house
so I leave it with my friends to use through the summer. I also checked on my camper I leave there to use during hunting season.
I try not to think about deer and hunting all year but did I tell you about the deer my buddy saw on his lawn the other night? lol
I think I'll go out and start tinkering on my boat. Walleye fishing starts in a couple of weeks.
I wonder if I'll see any deer down by the river like I did last year? :)

Your wife happy you got a few more Honey Does done?;)
Glad to see the sight back up. We'll see how the new format goes. I noticed I had to completely reregister. We'll see if I am a born again virgin, LOL. (newby)

All right! We're back on line.
I also missed the site here. It looks like we're back to the beginning, however. I don't mind being a virgin again (if only it was that easy!!), but the history of posts and information that are lost--real pity.
Seeing lots of deer up in my hunting area. Also, I blew a hot water line in Jan, so the first trip up there for a weekend is going to involve replacing the floor, carpeting, and walls in the "kids room". While we're at it, I may as well replace the windows in the bathroom and kid's room. It's a 12'X65' mobile home that was probably made in the late 60s, so we've been renovating it in bits and pieces. This will probably lead into replacing the living room carpet as well.
Anyhow, it's good to be back.

good to see it coming back together.
talk is, they are gonna allow us here in NC to bowhunt on Sundays this year. That'll be good for me as I hardly ever work on Sunday.

Nice to see this site back up. I've always thought it was one of the better sites around. It had so much good info.

Nice! We're back up and running. :)
A big thanks to everyone who donated some green stuff to help Swamp get things going again.
Sunday Hunting... man, I'd love to see it here in Maryland. We got a couple of Sundays last season... one in bow and one in gun season. I'd like to see that every weekend.

Hi, Can't keep a good man down, Swamp thanks for getting it back together.
Good to see you're all back...
What's wrong with the system in CT that they're permitting Xbows in the general archery season 'to help increase the harvest' before they allow everybody out there on Sundays...????
I'm with Bowman on this one... I almost never have to do a lick of (paying) work on Sundays, but I work Sundays more often than I take a day off during the week....
If they want to up the harvest, they oughtta turn me loose with my new string rifle a few more days per week :D

Allot of the Maryland counties are allowing some hunting. One county I hunt will allow all of Oct and a Sunday in Nov. this year.

Glad to see the sites back up.
This weekend's TX rain has me encouraged for this fall's season. Last year was as dry as it has ever been in recent times near San Antonio.

What did you get?
Just that Commander I picked up a few months back.. Pretty sure you were up to speed on that one...
It's rifle enough for the likes o' me :D
I did add one new doo-dad to her, though... That sight I picked up for $5 did everything I needed it to do, just not for quite as long as I had planned. It got a little bent, then it broke on me,.
But it taught me what I wanted to learn...
1) As in everything else, 'entry-level' products are low-cost for reasons above and beyond the mass-production aspect.
2) Finer pins are easier to look 'through' than fatter ones.
3) Brighter pins are a good thing, and 'fine' doesn't have to mean 'dim'
4) 2 pins ain't enough for what I've got in mind to do with this rig.
5) If Bowman parts with serious money on something, it's probably pretty good shtuff...
So now I've got a 5-pinner just like Bowman's, and the purty purple housing around the FO lines goes real nice with my purple cockfeathers...:D
I'm only using the top 3 pins so far, for 23, 30 and 38 yards, but I'm hoping to do a couple of Sunday shoots at the club I used to belong to, so I can start practicing way on out there.... Last night I put 3 into about an inch and a quarter using my long pin

I must admit, I thought it had gone for good, and the chances of it reviving very small.
So it is nice to have it back.
And so, we now have the first really nice evening of the year, (perhaps a bit still for good hunting, but beautifully warm), but me and a .270 have an appointment, and we might meet a buck..:)
I'd say that's one department in which you have us well and truly beat!
I've been contenting myself with target practice, but now that I can shoot in the yard, at least I can do it often...

I hope there is fresh meat in the larder tonight.
With the new name does that mean we can't call you Herne anymore? :)
My guess is, you may as well or a lot of people will be wondering why this Meyrick fellow is getting asked so many questions ;)
So now that almost all of the old guard are here....
Last one to Carpal Tunnel buys?

Well I went for years being a Company, and now that I'm not, and don't have to worry about clients and things, I can just be myself.
Yes there is meat for the freezer - a nice yearling buck made the mistake of stepping out along a stream bank, and that was a touch fatal. Not worried about the head or anything, just a nice evening to go out, and a bit of success never harmed. (Especially without the midges)(And some points from 'er indoors)
Its been a month or so since I last fired it, but I do REALLY like that 270. I know its more than necessary, and I know they bang and bounce a bit, but it do knock them over. :D
Anyway - head and legs to do.

I had to come back as me. I just couldn't be anyone else. I've been trying to find an excuse to get out to the woods and stomp around for a day but my life has been planned for me through the end of May. I don't know why that woman thinks she needs to run my life too. You'd think, with three sons, she have enough to do. She seems to fit me in. Gotta go to work. Y'all have a good day.

Well Alan Hughes is Ok too....:)
Altjaeger - you are right. Nice handbag over the shoulder sized job. None of this humping and hauling. Do you want that portable winch thingy of mine BTW? I don't know whether you have enough trees to make it worthwhile, but it does make dressing out full sized deer (which I have no intention of hunting again) very easy.

The area I hunt in east Texas would make you think of a European mixed conifer/hardwood forest.:)
But with our little 100 lbs live weight whitetails they are not much more difficult than a roe buck. Plus I often have a son or son-in-law to assist with the heavy lifting. Don't wanting them getting off to easy!:D

Ah well - free and post free to a good home. One tiny winch, fits easily in a belt pouch/pocket - tasteful purple kevlar/dynemo cord and quality stainless ballraced racing yacht pulleys, 5:1 lift over 5 foot or so, never tangles even at night, rated to about 1000 lbs I think but could be as much as one ton, but the biggest I have ever taken up is about 700lbs, so might also suit elk hunters. 1 careful owner, no guarantees, only slightly bloodsoaked, but otherwise in good working nick - proven history. (cord to tie to tree branch, loop round hock)
Absolutely the dogs bollocks in field winches
First to pm secures. small donation to Swamp appreciated. (Original cost about $250, discount accepted :) )

Hearn,
you are a genorous man. I made up one of those too. All I need to do to "get lucky" is to leave it at home.
Mr Alan Hughes, don't you use that "out behind the barn" tag line?
i would know that line anywhere.
I met a calf once, out behind the barn

Things being down was (for me) a bit of a blessing in disguise.... I think I'd been getting a little too wired up and was spending a little too much time arguing with the wrong end of the mule on a few subjects....

Well, I'm an idiot. I kept on clicking on the old link once a week and getting an error. I just today went back to the main entry point and clicked on the forums link, and got in. Anyway, I'm glad it's back up and I posted that news over at Hunt America.
