This being the last weekend of muzzleloader season I thought I'd go see what the conditions are where I hunt. I've got about 5 inches of snow in my yard.
Where I hunt we had to use a snowmobile to get around in the woods. 18 in.
of snow with deeper drifts in and near the fields.
We saw one small deer and decided to pass.
Well that's it for this year. One doe last weekend, 115 lbs dressed.
That'll have to get me through till next year.
I envy you guys that get to hunt for another month and can take all the deer
you want.:)

115 is as big as does generally get around here.
Gotta be 50lb of meat there.
Savor it!

Hey Twanger,
a 115 lb. doe is about the average mature doe where I hunt. Other
places they can get much bigger. I've heard of a few that went near 200
but Ive never seen one myself.

I will savor that venison. It seems that the harder it comes the more I
appreciate it. The years that I get more than one deer and my freezer
looking good it's like , Yah I've got plenty of venison, no big deal.
I'll just have to mix some walleye fillets meals between the venison meals
To get me through.:)

Yes, fish is a good compliment to venison in the freezer.
I have not gotten offshore this year (or even into the Bay) and the fish supply is pretty much done.

I bought half a pig and half a lamb, so we've got some variety this year.

Lamb and venison burger mixed 50/50 makes some excellent hamburgers on the grill.
