Today I went out and purchased what I call a pest control rifle. A Savage in the 17 rimfire caliber. I put a Bushnell 3 x 9 power scope on the rifle and can't wait to find out which factory ammo it will shoot the best.

The squirrels and crows been eating up all my pigeon food lately and that has to stop pronto like.:(
I do plan on eradicating some of those pesky critters soon as possible with that little bull barrel Savage 17. I really like the idea it flys over 500 ft a second faster than the 22mag and explodes like a bomb when you hit the intended critter. :D :D

Pigeon food? I was going to tell you about the .22 WMR and .22 Hornet for pigeon shooting. I am into carving my own decoying right now, to bring them in for some shotgun practice.

Carving??? You can shoot a better looking pigeon than you could ever carve a decoy for. We used to shoot thousands of barn pigeons when we were kids and a better duck decoying practice bird was never invented. The hardest part was always getting the first half dozen or so to use as decoys. Once you had the flock coming in and you added more dead birds to the set, you could be standing in plain sight and they would still come in if you had enough birds set out as decoys. Finally we got smart and just froze some good color contrasting birds for decoys instead of turning them all into cat food. Winter around the farms was always good, but a just picked pea field next to a standing corn field for cover was absolute murder. Being on a 16 year olds budget, many a time we ran out of shells before we ran out of pigeons. If I remember right, Hi Ball has some higher end pigeons than that common barn pigeon variety.

Gentlemen I have some pigeons that are valued (cost me) a sum of $300 bucks a piece and that is chump change compared to those that are the Big Boys in the sport of pigeons! My white racing homers (weddings and such) sell for $55 dollars piece and I am not letting anyone shoot them out of the air savvy. I also have Birmingham Rollers and Turkish Rollers too, also in various colors, like the Silver, Lavender, Blacks with White wing tips, Chocolates etc. I feed 30-pounds of mixed grain (small oil sunflower, millet, milo, cracked corn, wheat ) a day, if your doing the math.
