I pulled out at 3 AM and arrived at Wall Mart at 4:40 am, PICKED UP SOME HAND AND FOOT WARMER PACKETS Friday morning. THANK GOD FOR Wally's WORLD!
I know you all are getting tired of hearing about my hunts. But to say I had a good hunt would be an understatement. On Stand at 5:15 waiting for light. 2 yearling came across the field at 1st light with I could see, Then 4 doe's crossed. After that 3 more and I look to my right and see 2 doe's and a buck in pursuit. At 150-170 yards heart shot with 50 cal knight DISC down in 45. I sat for a good half hour and 3 doe's and a tall 4 point came out and I took a shot at one of the doe's ........hit a branch DOOO! I decided to go check the kill out. I get there and one half rack, one side busted off already DOOO! I walk to the van drive back dress him out and look down the field and 2 doe's were under my stand. I put the deer in the van and looked back down 4 more entered the field but they all left quick with they saw me get my gun out. So I drive out of the field and up the hedge how and I see a doe about 100 yards out I get out layed the gun against the door and fired. Miss, I go and check out the site and a big trench was dug in the ground. I returned to the van pull the gun out to clean and no Jag on the end of the Ram Rod UH-OH ! Turns out the Jag must have twisted off in the rifle when I loaded it. Big Mistake. I learned a lesson today. Check your Chit at every step. O well, I pick up Jake and on the way home not farm from the farm we look over and see a White Deer Awesome. That alone would make my day.
Well the snow is here in Md. I plan on putting a few doe's down this week.
I am so thankful that my son's school let out early yesterday in Va instead of today. We have about 15" of snow right now and expecting another foot.

The old Knight disc rocks again. The company may not be working but
my disc was working this season.
As long as I've got disc for it I'll keep on using it. It's been good to me.

I had the same thing happen this year. I did a lot of load testing, and later in the house after a session of testing I noticed the jag was gone off my bench loading rod.
I looked all over for the jag, and was left wondering if it didn't go down the range at 2296 fps on my last shot

Well you at least removed the rod... that's a big plus....
I'm pretty much for gluing my jags to the rod and using an already tapped/threaded jag or drilling and tapping myself for such as patch pullers or god forbid.... a lead ball.
A range rod with a free spinning handle is the right tool on the range where you aren't doing too much "lapping" while cleaning.
Aloha... Tom

Great Idea... I'll do that
Removing a lead ball... I tried to do a couple with no luck, out of my flintlocks. On one I pulled the end with the screw right off the rod. I had to take out the liner, trickle in as much 3f as I could and let 'er rip.
I hate it when I forget to put in powder  It only seems to happen when someone on the range is talking to me, so I try not to do that.
I never shot a rod, I bet that scares the hell out of ya  :D

I have it on good authority that a range rod kicks like a mule... enhanced ...
Yes... the range. Ball then powder. Powder-ball-powder-ball; powder-ball-ball; usually all created by distraction... usually created by interaction with others.
When I run a course, regardless of, archery, .22, pellet, centerfire, or especially muzzleloader... there is only one person/instructor combo allowed on the range and talking outside of your station is FORBIDDEN!!
Pulling a ball is a sumbitch... having a rod with grip is usually not available when you need it. The best rod I've seen for pulling was an aluminum rod with first aid tape wrapped around the rod near the top to prevent slippage from which a LEATHER strap was wrapped around the rod. If you are alone, god help you... or have rope you can affix to a tree or something to aid you while you pulled on the gun. Having a bore guide or a thick (like mine) fiberglass rod with tape to help center the worm on the ball at the tip makes a big difference in getting the ball out too. Some worms have a "caliber" ring which is oooohhh so helpful in aiding this process.
Aloha...
I pulled a ball. Once.
Nipple-trickle-boom after that :D
I'm jealous of ya, Dave - I figured Saturday would be as good a chance as I'd have all season, then my little guy got sick and I thought better of leaving Momma stranded at home with a puking 4-year-old.
Have to get out at least once more this year, if only to unload :D

:) What the heck did Davey Crocket do :cool:
Gota say thank goodness I was useing my in-line Sunday. Dropped the sabot/bullet in there & rammed it down. Thought someting wasn't right. Looked at my range box & saw the fresh load of powder in the measure. Took out the breech plug & gsve a little push & there lay the bullet & no powder. Glad I caught it before i tried to light it off. Nobody there to distract me either. It was cold & I was in a hurry to get that last shot off.

Rattus , I like to put a hole through the back end of the rod big enough for a 6 penny nail while I keep in the patch pox or posibals bag and a piece of leather to wrap around the nail when I need to pull something.
I like to load my powder 1st, what's it to ya ! LOL:eek:
