I don't like change when I don't know it is comming. Works different and I can't see that it is for the better. Probably gone from the forum this time for good.

This software is a big improvement over the previous version we were on. Well at least that is supposed to be the case. I like it better at least. LOL

You actually like this?
looks like I'm posting in a comic book.

This looks like one of those cheezey forums that nobody posts on any more. Hard to read, hard to see, hard to keep up the interest. I wish it felt like a comic book! That would be an improvement.

It logs me out every time I leave.
Maybe I haven't found the skins yet, but I can hardly see the difference if a forum has new posts. The colors are too close.

I thought it wasn't keeping me logged in, too Rock Chuck, but it is. It just isn't apparent on the main forums page. Click on the "What's New" tab and watch your user name appear on the top line, about 3/4 ths of the way across.
Also, you don't see the place to click on "New Posts" until you do the same thing.

The fact Swamp posted that he likes it tells me how far apart we really are. (sad icon)

When you log in select the "remember me" box right under your user name. ;) that will keep you logged in
I will have to work on the color scheme

I'm about half color blind and I can't make heads or tails out of this anymore. It all looks the same. Even the icons require a bit of scrutiny as there isn't a whole lot of difference in them. I don't know, this might be too much of a good thing.

the colors are rather subtle but that can be changed. However, this is the most advanced forum software on the planet

It's taken me a couple of screw-ups to get used to where things are, but I don't mind the new forums and they seem to work quickly. ...
I would say that the color scheme is perhaps a bit too subtle, but then I've often been accused of being attracted to the neon nights... ;)

Maybe, or maybe it was simply as cheap as it looks. Yuk.

If it's so advanced, turning the color to brownish and getting better smileys should be no problem.

Yes, or you can just click on the "What's New" Tab at the main forum page. This appears to do the same thing.

are you saying that you don't like the cosmetic appearance of the forums or are you saying that they are non-functional, run slowly, hard to navigate etc

Now that I have played with it things are even worse. When I used it this weekend I was visiting at my brothers and on his computer. It was functional, but I did not like the appearance.
Now I am back home. I know that I may be the last person on earth who uses the WEBTV to any degree. The computer in the house has been giving us problems and we started erasing everything this evening and will be rebuilding it. So it may be back up in a day or two. When it is up 3 of us share it so my time is limited and most use is associated with work.
My internet recreational time is down in what my son-in-law calls the "man cave" using this. Trying to use this change on the MSNTV is a fiasco. I click into a forum and see numbers, but no thread titles or indications of what is newly post to or by who. If I click a number I get the first post in a thread and may or may nor have a new post when I get to the end. I see a reloading forum and a optics forum, but no firearms forums. Brownies is missing. Cooking is missing. Now I am sure they are there and I simply cannot pull them up.
Bottom line is that at this point it is totally unusable to me. When I have the computer back up I may be by occassionally but often I am not on it for 2-3 days at a time. That is especially true when my stepson who is taking several HS pre-AP classes is working on his studies. I thank you for the years of pleasure I have made here and the good folks I have enjoyed. For now though it looks like my time will be limited in the future due to this "upgrade".
I might give youan emoticon but none are visible.

clicking on Forum or the large VBulletin image will take you to the main forum index page... I am not familar with web-tv so cant advise you on that.

No Swamp that is not working on this layout. As far as the WEBTV (now MSNTV) best thing to do is consider it a slave terminal to a large mainframe elsewhere. The network controls all programming and the user can only use what is there. This format simply will not work.
I'll try to get by a few times a week. Good luck.

Not if the buttons to upload don't work, which is the case. I created an album. It has 2 buttons to upload but neither work.
edit: I got it to work but I have to open the button in a new browser tab or window (using a right click> open in Firefox). It won't work with just a click.

Go to bottom right hand corner of your web brower and increase the zoom level to 125% or greater to suit your needs

Won't that affect all websites, not just yours? Also, it affects ALL of the site, not just the reply text.
I saw this complained about on another site, and the administrator fixed it, somehow.

I'm certain its a variable that could be changed I will look into it but seems like an easy fix in the meantime, only affects the forums page at least for me

Creating an album isn't the problem. It's uploading the pic. The upload button doesn't click unless I rightclick and choose 'open in new tab'. That's easy enough to do, but after I upload the pic, how do I save it? When I upload, it appears in the 'manage attachment' window under 'current attachments', but as soon as I leave there, it disappears. My profile shows the album as empty. I see a button to remove the photo, but not one to save it.

There's a whole lot of things AR has that are not present on this forum. Thank God! If HA ever becomes infested with that ilk, I won't want to be around here either. Keep up the good work Swamp. You'll get the bugs worked out. I think the HA folks are the best there is (are).

there arent any bugs in this software that I am aware off.... i do want a new forum skin (cosmetic make over) and am working on getting it done by someone with some expertise in that area.
Are these forums moving at fast speed or are they dragging compared to other forums?
postoak
01-04-2010, 08:39 AM
The speed is good. Of course, you don't have the amount of traffice that most other sites do.
Just for the heck of it I took a look at the software used by other forums I visit:
vBulletin - 6 (but you are the only one at V4.0.0)
phpBB - 1
UBB - 3
Social Strata - 1
However, the font size in the reply box is not this small on any of the others. I remember when one first switched to Vbulletin, they had the same problem, got complaints about it, and increased the size.

The problem I'm having is that when I'm typing, sometimes the reply box jumps around from one line to another.
I'll go to type, and the curser will be a line or two above the line I want to be on. The only way I can get back to the sentence I was trying to finish is to use my arrow keys. If I use the mouse to move the curser, it just jumps backs to where it wants to be, not to where I want to type when I start typing.
It's the same on 2 different computers, and I never had it happen before on any forum until this upgrade.
Maybe I should take Swampmans advise, and take a hammer to the screen... :stupido2:
