I've seen it on the shelf, but never bought a box. I see the specs for the 7mm RM at 2710 fps and 2283 me and 17 lb. of recoil and realize that isn't that far off from my 7mm-08. Not that I want to sell off that 7mm-08, but the 7mm RM is actually 1/4 pound lighter and has a better scope on it so I could consolidate a little if I really wanted to. Just looking for some feedback from anyone who has tried this stuff in any of their different configurations. The reason that I built up the 7mm-08 in the first place was because that RM was too much for a close in deer unless I went to 160 or 175 grain bullets.

Bushman,
That Managed Recoil ammo is merely loaded down ammo for less recoil. For years Speer listed Reduced Loads and many savy folks loaded cast rifle loads.
I load my rifles up to their accuracy loads.

A friend uses it in his 270 for his daughter. He says it is plenty accurate and drops deer neatly.

I haven't yet. My 117 pound grandson said the .270 WCF was just fine with full loads.
But the thought I had was that with the reduced loads and the superformance loads, we have about 3 times as many cartridges as we need. For example, the .25-06 can be everything from the .250-3000 to the .257 Weatherby.

A .270 would be even way milder than my 7mm RM. They show a .243 with a 100 grain Core-Lokt at 11 or 12 pounds of recoil and the .270 MR load with a 115 grain bullet is coming in at 9 pounds.
Like Badger writes, I'm all for accuracy, but our deer are so close that minute of pie plate is usually good enough.
My 77 year old dad has used the Remington Managed Recoil .308 factory load for a few years with pretty fair results. I've been hand loading a similar load for him for the last couple of years. My hand load is considerably more accurate than the factory load is in dad’s gun. Pop shoots a Browning BLR 81 .308 and the Remington factory load does about 1 ½” or a smidge looser from the bench at 100 yards. My hand loaded 125 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip shoots well under an inch and is just slightly faster than the factory load. Unfortunately dad hasn’t killed a deer with my load so I can’t testify as to terminal performance but I have confidence at the slowed down velocity of 2,700 fps a heart/lung shot will do the trick at the typical woods ranges we shoot.
Personally, I was looking at the managed recoil stuff for my 7-08! It's a lot like a 7-30 Waters, but A) in a bolt rife, which matters to me because i really don't like the looks of a scoped lever gun and B) I already have one, so I wouldn't have to go out and buy a new rifle, which matters to me because my son's hearing aids are about $2,000 a pop and will have to be replaced every few years. Kinda eats into the gun budget...
Anyway, for woods ranges, standard factory 7-08s are faster & more destructive than I need them to be, so I have no reservations about toning them down a little, and if my hearing and retinas last longer as a result, I'm OK with that, too.... And if these aren't 'enough gun' for deer hunting, I hope all the deer killed by .30-30s over the years don't rise up from the dead to complain about having been eaten prematurely....
PostOak - your grandson may well be fine shooting standard .270s (and I do have almost 20 pounds on him ;) ). But A) he's probably a lot more excited about getting smacked by a 'grown-up' cartridge than I am and B) I hope you're not letting him shoot it off a bench.... No point or benefit in that....

My grandson has grown 2 inches and gained 8 pounds since I posted above. :D
Yes, he shoots off the bench, and the recoil doesn't bother him at all. My rifle has a nice thick recoil pad, and is standard weight.

My girlfreind used it and it was okay... basically, like others have said, it is just reduced loads like handloaders have been doing forever and ever. My girl is now shooting standard ammo and likes it better because it is more accurate in her rifle and she says the kick isn't anything to worry about........... 7mm remington.
