WD40 has been my favorite for years.
Not for triggers or bolts, but hard to beat on surfaces inside or outside the barrel.

Good article. I have used RIG for years with complete success. All the best...

Bill, I printed that one. Thanks for putting it up. I've used Rig for years myself mostly because it doesn't smell like anything and protects well. My gunsmith did tell me that any locksmith will kick you in the butt for using WD-40 in a lock because it will gum up over time. He said that WD-40 has given him a lot of work over the years because there are so many semi-autos around here and guys gum them up with WD-40. I saw that myself with a M100 that I had. It worked pretty well for a year or two, then turned into a brown gummy goo. Tri-Flow has worked better ever since. We found that shooting barn pigeons with M1100's in the winter that Tri-Flow was one of the lubricants that didn't slow the action down.

I asked the owner of a super high end collector gun shop that I know what they use. He said Synthetic EEZOX Premium Gun Care which is a solvent, lubricant and rust preventative that is dry to the touch according to the bottle for what it's worth.

Any recommendations, then, for a salt air location?

I've got my working rifles which don't get a lot of work, but also the wife's family heirloom collection which was probably put away in Cosmolene, if I know Grandpaw.... A shame he's not around to ask...

Anyway, there are a couple of rifles and a pistola there which do have some real value - can't let 'em rust, but wouldn't want to wreck any stocks. Can't let 'em sit now, because I wiped them down pretty good when we had an appraiser looking at them and I need to get them back into shape for long-term storage...

On my own rifles, I've been using ML patches with WonderLube - worst thing about them is they're so dang small! But it's a nice, waxy coat that seems to be doing what I need it to do - at least on the outsides... Have only used it in the barrel of the ML, and that has a white frost in the bore, no matter how much I scrub with hot, soapy H20. :(

Vaseline works very well for long term storage. ATF for normal everyday rust prevention and lubrication.
