Since there is not a forum for this I will put it here. Does anyone know where to get good FREE or cheap instructions to drill and tap a mosin nagant receiver? I have a drill press, vice, drill bits, ect...all I really need now is instructions. I could get a gunsmith to do it but that would cost $75-80. I have also heard about welding the mount onto the receiver but I can think of more than one disadvantage for doing that. I do know that I will need a bent down bolt handle as well.

Doesn't B-square make a no drill mount for them?

The thing is I don't want a no drill mount. I want to make sure that it would come flying off after a shot or loosen before I take a shot at that trophy buck.

sharpshooter94,

The Mosin is tough to mount a scope on with that split bridge for the bolt handle. The Russian WWII PE and PU scope mounts were screwed to the left receiver wall. I think one was also brazed on.

I wouldn't think that the holes were already drilled into the receiver wall on the standard issue rifles right? And how hard would it be to get a mount for that type of setup?

sharpshooter94,

Thye holes are not already drilled for the PE or PU scope mounts. I looked at both examples in Austria in 1995 and forget the specifics. Maybe you can Google Mosin scope mounts for the specifics.

sharpshooter94,
I have used S&K no drill mounts for many years on several different military rifles. I can assure you, they do not come flying off when the firearm is fired. All the best...

you may see some pics about mounting PE on Mosin; and I thing you may ask the author by P.M. - he lives in Philadelphia.
