Is everyone here a fall season bear hunter, or are any of you going on a spring hunt?
If you have recently done a spring hunt, why did you choose that one (especially if you had to travel far and hire a guide), where did you go and what was the hunting experience?

Im a do it your self hunter but If im going to hunt another state I will do my research. Do you want a color phased bear? Do you want to stand hunt, spot and stalk, bait, predator call em? Everyones different. Maybe your even a durned dog hunter then falls for you.

If you got the money they have some huge brutes in british columbia but pricy. Alberta and manitoba have a lot of color phased bears.

If your looking for size and a thick fur coat wait till fall if you can.

I personaly hunt two states use to do it canadian style in ontario but changed everything us diy'ers are limited when it comes to canada these days.

Do your research talk to some outfiters and guides see what they offer. they got an all canada sports show that goes through the states that have a variety of bear outfitters you can talk to.

I wasn't really asking about me, but more in general about who plans a spring bear hunt in 2010.
I don't know that I will be able to get off work long enough to swing it.

Idaho is a place that has been a good spot and stalk hunt for several friends and work acquaintances over the years.
British Columbia is appealing, but has all those guide issues.
I don't mind hiring a guide - it's just that I want to be the one who decides if I need one, if I want one, and which one.

Idaho aye, I know a guy who hunts there took him a while but he shot himself a decent chocolate colored bear after a litle tip from me. Im shooting you a private message with some good info tell me if it works.

I know of a good book to i've far from read the pages off of it had for some time now called dr. ken nordbergs do it yourself black bear baiting and hunting. Its a good read Cant say it will teach you everything but if you havent been bear hunting for years upon years you will learn a lot.

Thanks, greenjeans. I had forgotten about that book. I read it in a library, years ago. I couldn't check it out, because I was working on the road, and was not from there. That is a good book. I didn't hunt bear this fall, because the easiest places for me to go are rugged and remote, and I could not find a hunting partner who could take off when I could. Baiting is not allowed in any of those areas, and the seasons are short. I really like still hunting, spot and stalk, and tracking for all game. Tree stands and bait are not my style. I will set up a ground blind. I like to be able to move and adjust to changes in weather and wind.

I am going to try to find a copy of that book and buy it.
