Does anyone have an idea for a "gun friendly" scope mount for the above mentioned rifle. There are no rails on the receiver so I think that it will have to be a barrel mount. Thanks!

My first .22 was a M62A and it came with a 3/4" Weaver scope with a side mount drilled into the side of the receiver. That scope mount really killed the collector value. It had beautiful wood gain in it, but that stock was never designed to be used with a scope. In your place I would trade it for a hammerless M61 with the scope grooves already cut into the receiver. They are expensive, but are they ever nice to carry and shoot. I've got a mint one with a receiver sight on it and no grooves which is the way that I wanted one to start with, but it knocked the collector value down by $200. Your stock M62A is collectible too without scope mount holes.

Bushman,
Do you know of any barrel clamp mounts that would work with the 62A. I do not want to get rid of the gun and I will use it without a scope if there are not any available mounts that I could put on it. The biggest problem is going to be finding a mount that will work with the ejection system. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, the Model 62A is a pump action 22lr. When you work the action the top of the receiver is pushed up and back to eject the fired shell and chamber a fresh round. Since the top of the receiver is pushed up a mount that stands higher above the receiver or a mount the stays in front of the receiver will be needed. Thanks for the help.

I just got a taurus model 172 (take off on my old winchester model 62 that I got in 1950) and found (and am waiting for) a weaver scope base that claims to be for the 62 and the 172. Site is LG outdoors and it is a taurus product SKU :SS 32072.

but again, I could really be lost as I haven't received the base yet

how about a scope model ?? (advice)

I think they quit making those 62's in the 1950's.
Whatever you do, altering the gun will kill the value. I restore old 22's and am very carefull what I do to collectable rifles. It's a piece of history. I repair if necessarry, clean, and oil. No restoration. They're worth more rusty and beat looking....unfortunately.
I know of no clamp-on mounts. I've heard of them for Swiss Karibine but have never seen any.
