and noticed the ammo shelves were nearly bare. Didn't look like they had any centerfire ammo or .22 bullets at all ... although I did see some .22mags for almost ten bucks a box.

What's goin on?

I noticed they didn't have any permanone either.

It's true NC. That has been going on here for a while. Wal Mart does get a new shipment in regulary. Sometimes I catch it and get a milk carton of .22's. But the sporting goods clerks have a list of people to call when it comes in, plus people are learning the truck arrival days.

I think it is rediculuos and it aggravates me. Regular working folk who enjoy the shooting sports on the weekend can't get any ammo because of the "RED DAWN" people. You never know. Some of those peole may jump ship. That won't be good.

I couldn't find any permanone in Missouri either but I did find a similar product at Bass Pro called "Sawyer" and it's basically the same thing. It's not marked very prominently as being a permetherin product and I almost overlooked it. It was with the camping gear.

Watching this topic on another forum this is a national problem. There seems to be two factors working.

One is that many have been hoarding for fear of this administration. The other is that in some locations individuals have been buying full shipments as they come in then selling at gunshops or gunshows for inflated prices. I am seeing similar reports at stores like Dick's, Academy and Sportsmen's Warehouse.

Some individual Walmart's and other stores have gone to placing daily purchasing limits such as two boxes daily to ensure their shipments get spread around a little. I am reading that background checks on gun purchases have tripled since September so it would follow in my mind that ammo would too.

I can understand that there is a limit to manufacturing capacity. At the same time if I managed a factory I would be hesitant to spend the capitol for expensive new machinery for what is likely a temporary burst of demand.

It seems likely that the shortage is a simply matter of demand as opposed to anything Walmart is doing or a larger conspiracy. If so then it is likely that supplies will catch up but I suspect the prices caused by the laws of supply and demand will be slower to fall.

Guy I know up in Maine owns a machine shop that makes barrels for the M16 and M4 variants - I think he said Bushmaster ?

Anyway, his shop is going three shifts, full tilt to keep up with demand....

and I can't get him to work on some low production projects I need done !!!!:(

Three months ago, big sporting goods store chain here in central NY had 7 AR15's in thier gun case - two weeks ago there were none. I didn't bother to ask when they'd be getting more.
