Since I asked for this forum, I suppose I should try to get things started here.

We're in our last month before the adult tag applications have to be in Peterborough for the Ontario moose season. Unfortunately for you non-residents, you have to go through an outfitter to hunt moose here and can't enter the resident draw (you have a better chance of getting an adult tag through an outfitter than we residents do anyway).

A hint for the non-residents, outfitters can exchange one gun-bull tag for two archery bull tags, so you have an even better chance of getting a bull tag if you're a bowhunter - and crossbows are legal here as well.

I am heading to Ontario next month for some fishing. The place that we are going to offers moose hunts but only for residents. I looked once and there is an outfit in the next unit to the east of ours that offers hunts for non-residents but at this point I have not seriously considered a moose hunt up there. What kind of success rates are they typically seeing in Ontario for moose hunting season?

Hunted Ontario for 7 of past 10 yrs-- as Non res we got alltags we wanted-- just paid more for bulls than cow or calf--if i was a res I'd not be happy to say the least- why should you go hungery whilst the outfitter gets the tags??
I have enjoyed those hunts alot- not like those i had in 25 yrs living in AK but super given cost for non res and fishing was good- unlike other places requiring a guide you only need to go through an outfitter(read buy some of his services) we use thier accomadations and transport etc- for money good value.
As for success- do not expect a bull for each hunter- we usually have 4 guys and have 2 bull tags- one cow and one calf most years we get one bull and another beast- but once got 2 bulls a cow and a calf-very very unusual.

Well, the results are available now. As a pool 2 applicant, I was lucky enough to get a cow tag for our archery hunt in WMU 24. Now to see if we got a bull tag as well I'm waiting to hear from other members of our group.
