I recently bought a CVA Firebolt in .45 cal. I took out the breech plug and checked the barrel to find that it was rather rusty near the breech and some spots along the rest of the barrel. I used solvent and the brass brush to clean out some of the rust. I got the worst of it out and put some oil in it. How would you deal with the rust?

WD-40,
just try not to get a lot of it in the trigger assembly.

White vinegar will get rid of all the rust. Give it about an hour to work and then clean the barrel.

Then I'd go with WD-40. Nothing I've seen beats WD-40 for preventing rust.

I'll try the vinegar tonight and let you know tomorrow. Thanks guys. By the way I found a great song you might like.

I have removed rust from a bore by using Remington Bore Cleaner on a piece of cloth wrapped around a brush. Then I use a brush with J.B. Bore Cleaner paste. That gets followed by patches with Shooters Choice, dry patches and a few oil patches. All the best...

I got it out by shooting the darn thing and properly cleaning it.
