View Full Version : What's it like crow shooting with an electric caller?

I've never met a crow that I liked much and that seems to be the most abundant varmint around here. The tax refund just got here and I was thinking that I might be able to squeeze a new Fox Pro electric caller out of that. Much as I'd like to dust them off with my .221 Fireball, I think that I could do more damage with a 12 gauge and an e-caller. That combination might fit nicely on the rack of my Honda CT110 trail bike stopping every so often to duck back into the evergreens to do some calling. A state or national forest full of dirt roads, a couple of cups of gasoline and I'd think that a guy could have a pretty good time. Change the tune, change the load and the choke tube and coyote calling could happen too. The crows might be up when I am though.

It's a heckuva lot of fun that's what! It's a lot like turkey hunting. Hide in the brush, maybe set out a few decoys, call and wait. But like any other varmint hunting you will have to kill every crow that shows up or else he'll just fly away and tell all the other crows what the deal is and you'll be done. In that spot anyway. Use a crow and owl fight with an owl decoy with a piece of black trash bag tied to it to flutter in the wind and they WILL GO APE! Springtime is good when they're nesting. I like to do it here in the early summer during hay season. All you have to do is lean against a big round bale with a mouth call and go nuts for a bit and wait. They usually will just land on a bale about 200 yds. out to look around and you can bust them with a 22-250 or something. Kind of like a black pinata ;) (there's no candy inside)
