God rest his soul.
He probably single-handedly ignited my interest in muzzleloading.

Actually, I remember Fess Parker more as Davy Crockett, than Daniel Boone. I liked him as Boone, but I grew up with him as Crockett. And yes, I did have a "coon" skin hat, still do!

Yep. Had the coonskin hat; so did all my buddies. They went great with the B-9 parkas we all wore in the Minnesota winters.

Coonskin cap here also. They must have sold a lot of those!
I haven't read the article. I don't remember him as Daniel Boone, tho, just Davy Crockett.
ETA: Okay, I've read the article now. So much for MY memory, it was Daniel Boone I remembered him as, I guess.

My four kids used to watch Danial Boone every saturday. They looked like a bunch of raccoons all sitting on the floor in front of the TV in a row, all lined up and all wearing those coonskin hats, still wearing their pajamas, and eating cereal ! Brings back some good memories! My youngest will be 46 in May, and the oldest will be 53 in June!
It seems all the good shows have gone by the wayside! Too bad!
.........................Hang old tick licker over the door, and rest Mr. Parker!

Yup, I was 8 years old, and my Aunt bought me a Raccoon hat and a shirt with the fringes on it. Man, I was in my glory. Davey was always my hero...

Until you guys brought it up, all these years later I didn't remember that Fess Parker had played both roles. I did catch him on the Retro TV channel a couple weeks back so that theme song: "Born on a mountain top in Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free..." brought back some good old Davy Crockett kid memories. Then I got to thinking about the Danial Boone theme song: "Danial Boone was a man, yes a big man. With and eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain was he..." more good kid memories. I know my old coon skin cap is around here somewhere. First raccoon that I ever got turned into a hat.
