I finally figured out what gun I have! I'm looking into putting a new scope mount on it. Does anyone know where to get mounts for it? I would figure that a gunsmith would know...but I wanted to check with you guys first, before I get dragged into buying something:wink:

It depends. A bit more information would be helpful. I am guessing that you have a large ring Mauser probably built on a standard length action. What caliber is it? Scope bases for an FN commercial Mauser action might fit. A call to Midway USA, Graf & Sons, MidSouth Shooters Supply or Natchez Shooting Supplies should get you the right scope bases. Hope this helps. Take care...

Will this help at all?

Joe nailed it, appears to be a large ring military Mauser and it has Bausch & Lomb scope bases. The thumb cut out on the left receiver wall was for the use of charging clips to load the magazine. Large ring '98 Mauser or FN Mauser rifles scope bases should fit your rifle. All the best...

thank you very much for your answers Gil and Joe. Now I just have to decide if I want to put a new scope on it. I kinda want to protect the scope as it is easily 30-40 years old and a family relic. Ideas? I'm looking for something of a tri-purpose scope. Lower end magnification and higher for both target and varmint. I was thinking about the Tasco target varmint 2.5-10 AO. Thoughts? Thanks again!

P.S. is the stock on that factory issue or custom? I heard that it was hand made but it looks mighty similar to the factory ones.

The scope looks like a Bausch & Lomb Balvar A without internal adjustments. Windage and elevation adjustments are made in the mount. I just bought an older FN Mauser sporter in .30-06 with the same scope and mount setup. I installed Weaver bases and rings and a Bushnell 3-9X Trophy scope. I stored my Bausch & Lomb scope and mounts and will probably never use them again. All the best...
