How many people use a 243 Win for coyotes out to 400 or more yds? Anyone have a 243 WSSM

I'm thinking about an AR-15 upper for the .243 wssm.but I want to see how the solved the bolt face size issue first. By all accounts it should be a great round.

i dont know how well the 243 WSSM will feed in an autoloader with its steep shoulder. Also it is a barrel burner, you might want to look into chrome lining your barrel. Also I wonder about finding brass for it. You might look at the 243 Win.

A .243 win won't fit through an AR-15. It needs an AR-10 platform.
and I don't have a lower to spare. I do have some AR-15 lowers that need to find a home.
While it wouldn't be ideal for an all day P'dog shoot it'll be fine for coyotes. I'm sure that the barrel will hold up as well as a swift.
Personally, I have some trouble with wiki as a source(for anything), they'll take information from anybody and don't do all that good a job checking facts.
Chrome lines barrels are not as accurate as non-lined barrels.
If I wanted to hunt P'dogs with an AR15, I'd stick with the .223 but get a fast twist barrel, one in 8 or one in 7.7, and use 75 grain Amaxs or something similar.
The .243 will burn out barrels faster than a .223.

swamp,
I use a Ruger M77 .243 for yodel dogs out to 400 yards and employ the .264WM beyond that.

The .264 is the standard length belted case like the 7mm rem mag or .338 Win mag, 0.532" bolt face and roughly 2.5" case length.

The .264 that uses the .308 case is the .260 Rem. My favorite for coyotes/pigs/deer is now the 120 Fusions.

The .243 Winchester/6mm Remington are pure poison on coyotes as far away as you can hit them. Been using one or the other of those two cartridges for years and nothing upsets a coyotes day like a .243/6mm bullet of from 70 - 87 grains running 3,100+ fps.

SWAM:P........Hey Boss, we use .243's & .244 (6mmRem) but if your going to be doing a bunch of 400 yard shooting of yotes, I would certainly opt for the .25/06 in a heart beat. Now better yet is the .257-Wby! Now .243 with 100 grn bullet will not set the world on fire but it does deliver more energy farther down range to 400 yards.
Most of our shots here in Missouri, are less than 200 yards and in the woods area more like 50 yards tops. Those are usually tagged with a 12 gauge with T-buck or #2's. I have tried double 00 buck & triple 000 buck as well but T-Buck or #2's works better in pattern.

I gotta agree with MO-GC, that a .243 bullet is a real nightmare for any coyote in the field or woods. Now speaking of shooting 400 yards down range on a coyote is a fer piece of marksmanship and my favorite caliber for that longer shooting is the 25/06 with a 100 grain bullet. A really great caliber for long range shooting of Song Dogs or any other big game under 350-lbs is the 6.5/06! Now this caliber will make a believer out of anybody shooting 400 yards at critters.:D
You can hit Mr. Yote from any angle with a .243 or the 25/06 caliber! Now factor in the 400 yards and you sort of weed out some of those smaller calibers like the .204, 222 Rem. and I myself would think twice about using a .223 caliber. The biggest reason is the "wind" on those smaller bullets far down range.;)
