have you ever put off buying a rifle, you knew you really wanted, but put off buying it because you had something similar? then once you bought it ,wondered what took you so long, and then found out that that rifle suited you almost exactly.
now its not Like I need a rifle as Ive got a couple, and I mostly hunt ELK and that's covered and I can,t think of any other game I could not hunt with my current battery, but I handled a BLR in 450 marlin several years ago, and bought it after A buddy offered me a great price on my marlin 45/70, figuring it was more or less a clone to the marlin in my battery to be used for hunting dark timber .
well the marlin 45/70 was a really nice dependable rifle, that I used for many years, in our ELK camp, loaded mostly with 420 hard cast or 405 grain Remington bullets at about 1800fps or 350 grain hornadys at near 2000fps
but after several hunting trips with the BLR Im rather impressed and glad I swapped, its a tiny bit more accurate than my old marlin , (not that its really noticeable) but the BLR cycles smoother and seems to handle a bit easier, point faster in my hands.
Im really glad I swapped and several of my friends have since purchased similar rifles after seeing mine

If you get a chance to try a friends 450 BLR on a hunt or at the range, try it, youll be impressed

sight in at 3.5" high at 100 yards youll be about 7" low at 200 yards

Happens to me all the time. I keep looking and usually snap up any decent rifle at a reasonable price that trips my trigger. All the best...

rimrock,

I watch the weekly "Penny Saver" paper and saw an ad for a .35 Whelen Remington 700BDL Classic. I called the number and got the rifle. I was about to have a gunsmith build me a .35 Whelen on a 98 Mauser action and was FAR happier to have a factory rifle in .35Whelen. My Classic suits me just fine. That was the Remington offering in 1988. I missed that offering, but DID get an unfired Rifle new-in-the-box for the hang tag price still attached to the trigger guard. I scoped the .35W and am all set for any North American game with this fine rifle.

youll love that rifle, mine loves the speer 250 grain bullets and h4895, h414, and imr 4064 powder
all three powders produce 3 shot groups off the beach under 1.25 inches at 100 yards
don,t get concerned with velocity levels even at 2300-2400fps it hammers big game
and a slide action is surprisingly accurate, and can be fast/ nimble in the field
