I took my son back to school down in Va yesterday and we stopped to check the sign out on one of the farms we are going to hunt Saturday morning coming up. a 10 acre hard wood stand was cut last year and the birds are making there way along the back edge so Jake and I built a ground blind between to large oaks and clearned out all around the bases. I think we will be in for an awesome morning. The dog woods are beginning to blossom so the time is right.

Good luck all.

My Dad says they are in East Texas. Unfortunately we do not have them here.

Our redbuds are just starting, and the fruit trees are halF and half, but the dogwoods haven't put our their blooms yet here in MO.

You know....Iv'e been out looking for morels alot this year,
and all the dogwoods I've seen have very, little to no blooms
on them this. I have 2 in my yard, and they both are very
sparse in their blooms(they usually are full). Wonder what that is all about? Morels,
on the other hand have been a bumbper crop....I found hundreds
this year.

Here in the KC area the morels have been few and far between. Yesterday was the first rain we've had in more than 2 weeks.

I just got back a half hour ago....had a nice rain last night,
and found 47 more. I think they are beginning to slow
down a bit, but they still are really a nice size.

They can be just about anywhere, but they come up around old dead trees, creek bottoms, or just in the leaf litter of the forest.

For three years we has some comming up in the yard next to our driveway. This year we were in a 2-3 week dry spell when they should have been popping, and I haven't heard of anyone in this immediate area getting a big haul this year.

Dave,
Dave-T is spot on. Go into a creek bottom,
or the lower part of a hillside, and look for dead elms,
or logs. They should be popping up around them.
Also, look around ash trees, they will pop up
about 2 feet or so from the base. They do seem to like
rotting logs. We had some timely rain around here, and I got
lucky enough to have some time off from work, so I hit it
just right. I think the season is just about done here, because
I haven't found any this past week. One thing about looking for
them, if you find one, you should find a bunch in the same area.
A side note, the darn ticks are ferocious this year.
