They're spawning early this year, but the wife and I found them and put 60 in the cooler this weekend (limit 15 per person per day) and had a great time. All nice 11-14" fish and all within 4' of the bank. Minnow, jig tipped with a minnow, or straight tube jig all worked. My father inlaw went with us Saturday and got his limit also.

Just finished a big plate of em. :)

We've been hauling them in. I say we, actually my oldest boy has been fishing every evening but I've caught a few too in my limited time. We've been catching minnows with a long handle net at the boat ramp and just fishing from shore right around there. No need to put the boat over when the fish are right at the ramp. :cool1:

Thanks Bill.

NC,
My father inlaw did walk to a spot yesterday and limit out in 45 minutes. We've walked to them a bunch, but these were about a mile down the lake and the boat was handy for cove jumping when the action slowed down. That's what is great about having a smaller boat to use. My Aries and 90hp evenrude wouldn't do well in the standing timber and rocks at the back of the coves, but my 14' jon boat with 9.5 Johnson (1968) will plow right over and through where the bass boats really shouldn't go. The down side is dealing with the waves out in the channel with the big boats.

We're going to a smaller local lake tonight with the 3 yr old. It'll be her first trip in the boat, so it will be an event whether the fish bite or not.
