Like probably lots of you, I watch that Deadliest Catch series on the Discovery Channel. Those guys are getting drenched pretty frequently and from what I can tell, most of them are wearing heavy rubber or vinyl coated rain gear. Why aren't they wearing Gore-Tex or Dry-Plus? I'd sure think that it would be a good advertising platform for Cabela's or Bass Pro to outfit those guys with high end rain gear, or wouldn't it hold up for day to day crab fishing?

The best semi permeable garments wouldnt work in such a soaking wet environment and/or would be in shreds by the end of the day... just my opinion

The raingear they wear dries fast because nothing absorbs water. Even though they have it on, they are still soaked by the time they get a break. I have friends that ride the boats up there. That's what they tell me. Maybe someday, there will be something better than what they use.
Awsome job those guys do up there. I enjoy my crab with a different perspective.

Interesting what kind of stuff that those crabbers do wear. Swamp that was my opinion too after my first set of Gore-Tex leaks pretty badly at this point. I've got a newer fishing set and a hunting set that seems better, but the stuff is really a thin membrane sandwiched in between a fleece or a Nylon shell. Also there would be safety concerns about not having the rain gear bright orange or yellow in case a guy went overboard and most of the Gore-Tex rain gear that I've seen is camo or some muted color. For as many years as I've been watching that show, I don't remember them ever talking about the outside temperature. Unless they have something pretty absorbent under that rain gear what they are wearing amounts to a portable sauna if they work up a sweat and how could they not?
