Remington just announced that they are bringing out a 1911 .45 ACP handgun in June 2010. The link below offers more information. I recently acquired a Colt 1911 Battle of the Marne from the 1960s so I am not in the market for a Model 1911, All the best...

It seems to me that another 1911 in what seems to be a flooded market of 1911's is going to be challenged to survive.
I mean, what could it have that isn't available? The Remington name is about it.
I read an article on it. Didn't look special to me.
I like 1911's. But there's lots of them already to look at.

It looks like it's manufactured entirely in the U.S and has a decent price. I'd buy one before I'd try something made somewhere else. There are all kinds of high end American made 1911's but darn few entry level models.

a 1911 from Remington sounds like a failiure in the making... just my opinion...

It depends. It looks like the Remington 1911 is a no frills offering at a modest price compared to what some 1911/1911A1 clones are selling for today. I wonder who is making these for Remington and where. The M.S.R.P. is in the $700 range and these will probably sell at dealers for around $600. At those prices, I doubt they are being made by Colt. I will look them over when I see them. All the best...

A lot of folks made 1911's during the "Forty's." Back in '69 when I got to Delta Battery 1/60th AA in Chicago I found our pistols included Colts, Smith&Wesson, Ithaca as well as a Remington-Rand. I scored expert using the "typwritter." If they could make a good 1911A1 back in the day what's the problem with thinking they could do it again?
Looks like a good, basic repro, but I'm surprised they're not rolling out with an Officer or Commander as well. Maybe they're thinking there's a market for those who aren't (yet) interested in carry but want to get into handgunning with a basic range gun. But in that case, where's the .22LR conversion kit? Oughtta be standard, IMO.....
It looks like it's manufactured entirely in the U.S and has a decent price. I'd buy one before I'd try something made somewhere else.
An admirable sentiment, in a way, but if you paid the same for a CZ version, for example, you'd get a better gun out of the deal...Unless the firearms market is fundamentally flawed, anyway. If the labor is cheaper and the price the same, then either the parts have got to be better or the margins fatter, and I doubt the competition is bloating their prices just because they think they can....
But if you get one, tell us what you think of it...

I'm inclined to agree with GF. American made doesn't mean what it used to, and I'm usually not willing to spend an extra $200-300 on a gun just to get that "made in the USA" stamp on it. I bought an RIA 1911 made in the Phillipines a few years ago for $350, and honestly, I can't tell the difference between it and my friends old GI model Colt. It shoots fine and functions flawlessly.

if it is like the other new stuff remington has come up with lately it will be a piece of junk. even kimber has loosened up their quality control the last few years. the best 1911 for under a grand is made by taurus. if you dont mind spending more than that you can bet on an upper end springfield or wilson combat. american-made doesnt always mean quality, sadly
